What is the #1 Radar detector?????

I need a radar-detector but I don't wanna just go buy some cheap-ass thing, or buy an expensive one that doesn't work great. What is the best one out there????? I'd like everyone's opinion.
Thank you,
Drew

V-1, hands down. Apart from it's sensitivity/specifity, the Bogey counter (number and direction), which is apparently patented and thus not available on other detectors, is indispensable.

Not Another Radar Detector Post!!!

In the real world there is the Valentine One, and then there's everything else. You ask why?

1) Two antennas

2) Directional Arrows

Nobody else has these features and that's why the others are a waste of money.

As long as there are "instant-On" radars used by the cops, all radars are USELESS. I say this cos i just got a ticket couple of weeks ago while my v-1 was on... it went from no warnings to full-on threat right as the cop zapped me... needless to say it was too late for me brake enough to avoid the tickets.

I got the v-1 thinking it was the best seeing how some ppl swear by it, but its got way too many false signals in the city (it picks up signals off business alarms and such) and like i said, its virtually useless if the cops are using Instant-On like some do here in austin.

i'll sell my brand new v-1 if anyone's interested...

Here we go again...

Escort 8500 for me.

but basically try searching for radar detector. about 70% of the people swear by the v1 and the rest of the 25 love the escort 8500.

I've used my V1 in Texas (Austin and San Antonio) and defeated both the city police and DSP many many times, instant on or not. Therefore I would say the V1 is highly effective and it is the driver that is USELESS.

You probably should sell it because if you don't know how to properly use it, yes it's no better than a paperweight. There are plenty of people here who will pay you money for it, good luck in your future driving endeavours (the TX cops are going to devour you as soon as you go unarmed).

I JUST, and I mean JUST picked up a 61 in a 40. I wish I would have had one of the 2.

I was on a 3 year winning streak with no radar detector.

It's as bad as, if not worse than, arguing evolution/creation. Take your time and do your own research.

Yes, any RADAR detector can get “beat” by instant on, but the V1 is so sensitive that you should get a warning while the cop is ZAPPING the traffic several miles out in front of you.
If you’re the number ONE car crossing into a “blind” area you are DEAD no matter what brand detector you have sitting on your dash.

And "shaHn78", set the V1 to “Advanced Logic” which is the big “L” and false alarms are greatly reduced in the city.

The V1 will give the best protection and the Escort 8500 is a close second.
None is perfect.

As usual, a lot of biased non-factual information given. Take a look at http://www.radartest.com/DS4HEM.html and http://www.speedzones.com/. They both have the Escort 8500 ahead of V1. Car and Driver have the exact opposite results. Someone is getting paid under the table!

It’s well known that RADARTEST got paid for their results.
It’s a LONG story that I’m not willing to retype.

Do a search; it’s been discussed here MANY times.

Pretty convincing, (at least for me), that radartest is on the take. But what about speedzones giving the 8500 the edge. Don't hear to many V1 owners commenting about that?

Hey guys Bel 980, V1 and Escort 8500 are the BEST out there. I think they all are pretty much the same, so if you happy with yours stick with it because it probably is the BEST you can get, and YOU HAVE IT !!!

Yeah those 3 are the upper echelon. You can argue ad naseum about which of the 3 is better. Just depends on what features you want. Make the decision yourself.

Is this a trick question ? V1 of course I know nothing can save you from instant on if it's aimed at you, but alot of cops and most motorcycle revenue collectors seem to leave it on. Those tickets you can avoid.

The sad thing is the ever growing use of Laser. In my area (Orlando) cops are sitting on overpasses, zapping you, and the then radioing thier buddies down the road. I bought a new Passport awhile back, used it in an area where I knew the used Laser. I saw the cop before the Passport when off. He had hit the cars in front of me and no response from the detector. He got to me next and the thing went off. If I hadn't known where I was and what to look for , I would've been toast. Radar is on the way out, and the narrow beam of the laser is coming on strong. I like to drive above the limit.....but I don't push it all of the time. If I want to go real fast, I take the bike......odds of a cop turning around the get a 160mph+( and pulling ) target is too much work !!!

While laser hasn't reared its ugly head around Chicago, I'm like you in that I don't push it all the time. In fact, I'd have to say I'm more of a 10 mph MAX over the speedlimit kind of guy. The MAIN reasons I bought the V1 is for (1) total peace of mind and (2) to know more times than not where the cops are.

If you can't see a car in front of you don't drive fast, because you won't pic up radar until it is on you. BE SMART.
