Went to Carlsbad Raceway today

Went to carlsbad this morning. No one was there early so I made six runs w/in an hour!! I could have done much better but I was getting A LOT of wheel hop. I need to practice the launch on this car. O, my buddy w/an auto vette posted his best time of 13.02. Another kid w/a WS6 had a best time of 14.1 The cool thing about it was he was racing his dad in an older vette. Dad kept winning!

Best run
Rt .758
60 ft 2.245
330ft 6.125
1/8 ET 9.279
1/8 mph 77.55
¼ ET 14.302
¼ mph 98.69

2nd best run
Rt .743
60ft 2.274
330ft 6.197
1/8 ET 9.355
1/8 mph 77.17
¼ ET 14.396
¼ mph 98.34

I'm going to try and go again next saturday if anyone is interested.

Satin, but I'm sure the lighter weight wheels help too.

davematthews, it was 65 degrees but I don't know about the humidity. 60-70% is typical for San Diego this time of year.

X3.2CLSX, absolutely VSA off. D3 once or twice but I was ALWAYS faster using the 1 -> 2-> D3 method.

Scott, my buddy w/the s2000 won't race me either.

ops, I fixed it!

Last time we raced I just had the headers. I've since added cai and the wheels. Pump gas so I'd have a good baseline.

I don't have any traction problems w/the Toyos. In fact I had too much traction today. I need to learn how to launch this sucker. I'll bet I'd hit 14.2s easily and maybe 14.1s. Lots of wheel hop today. Are you up for saturday? Probably be hot though.

Yeah, you might gain a tenth of a second if you were on speed, just because of better reaction times.
Those sure are some quarter times though.

Can you explain what the 1 - 2 - D3 method is?

I know there's SS and there's "leave it in D3". Are you just taking the stalk and putting it in "1" and then moving it to "2" when you want it to go to 2nd and then "D3" when you want it to go to third?

If so, how is that any different than using SS?

Yes, that's it exactly. The 1 -> 2 shift is the most important. I shift at 6500 rmps but the car actually shifts into second at 7200 because of the headers and cai. I didn't use SS because...well...because I didn't

Is there any way to decrease wheel-hop??? I know that the Eibach Pro-Control bar reduces chassis twist and flex, but would it have any effect on wheel-hopping? Sometimes, when I floor my CL-S, I get so much wheel-hop that everything in the front sounds like it's gonna shake apart. Freaks me out most of the time so much that I take my foot off the gas.

You answered your own question. Learn to give it 3/4 throttle and then floor it or roll on the throttle. That's what I need to practice on.

Looking good!

I want to see what happens if you drain the gas tank, go on a diet all week (j/k), and add some rocket fuel (100 octane).

I was thinking of doing that but wanted to get a good baseline first. You should have gone! I'd make a run come back around and be first or second in line again.

I think it would take me about 2 hours to get down there via the 15 (non-CHP take me away time). What time did you actually get there to get in the "tons" of runs?

You da man Mike! Those rims and tires must help a lot cos' I have to ease the throttle so that I don't spin the tires forever. I gotta sell these old ones and get some SSRs...although they weight more, I think the GT1s look better.

Eric, on this particular day I could have arrived at 9am and still have been one of the 1st ppl to line up. Everyone was in the pits getting their cars off of trailers and tuning them. There were only a handful of street cars. Technically I was only supposed to 3 warmup runs in but most ppl were in the pits so they let it go for the first hour or so. I don't know if this is the way they handle the races every sunday so don't take it as gospel.

Ronnie, get some new tires! They prepped the track the night before so even w/your tires you probably wouldn't have had any traction problems. It was sticky!!

Crazedluni, let's hook up! I have a safe spot to race. email me if you're interested. Saturdays it's $22. Yesterday it was $32 because of the bracket races. Let me know when they run the 1/8 @ Qualcomm again!!!

tel1sps, when I did brake torque I experienced the worst wheel hop. I tried rolling on the pedal but need more practice.
