I am suprised given the times on the I35 and the very tall 1st gear.

 

very respectable but i thought it would be faster w/those 60' times.

 

With RES and CAI and headers CL-S is still king,
remember now Temp is lower, The X man ran 14.4s with just his CAI at 32 degrees.

Also, no spare tire, no jack and lowered front tires pressure... and he got scared to death when his saw the "check engine" light came on....

a nice match up would be nice to watch....

dude, why would he lie w/those times? if he claimed to be running 14.0s stock w/an auto then that would be ridiculous. a manual max vs. a manual cls will still be a good race w/the edge going to the max (equal drivers). The max has a bit more torque and is ~ 300 lbs lighter.

 

Stocks also doesn't exactly mean stock tires either.... just stock engine. Just wanted to throw some ideas at ya. Those 60' times are really good, makes u wonder .....

 

The max does have the weight advantage, but the torque advantage is debatable. It defiantely has more of it, but it is all squished together at the upper end of the tach. Thus, the acceleration is not as good as it could be.

Except that ~90% of car owners keep their cars stock, so stock vs. stock matters a lot, especially to motor company bragging rights in commercials and such. Not to mention all the car rags review the stock versions of cars whenever they come out. So it is a big deal.

Very fishy 60' times....must be a very good track...I don't doubt the Max could run that....but .5 seconds faster than an I35...well, my car is still faster than the Maxs...and I have yet to have a Max beat me...5spd or auto...and yet to find a new Altima ready to run..

 

Those 60' times are certainly possible given a good driver. Regarding the times, think about these two things. First, if you're worried about the difference from the magazine times, bone-stock 5-spd Maximas have beat their magazine time by half a second a couple of times on maxima.org. Second, the weather conditions around the country right now are perfect for running great times. Hell, one guy with a 4th gen (95-99) Maxima ran a 14.2 with only intake and exhaust! Believe me, I was surprised as hell also, but 14.7 in an automatic Maxima with 255hp is certainly possible. Will it be repeated anytime soon? I doubt it...

Just so you guys know I'm not biased, I would rather have a 6-spd TLS (if it existed) than a 2002 6-spd Maxima. I love my car, but give me a 6-spd Aegean Blue TLS any day.

 

Oh...I don't doubt it...like I said...it's just launching at 1500 rpms and pulling 2.1 60' times seems hard to believe....do you guys have an LSD on that thing??? I certainly believe the 1/4...and the mph actually indicates a bit of wheelspin..right!?! Therefore, I don't see that 60' time being feasible...but it could be a really good track...

 

the new differential for the maxima is not available yet, and most certainly will only be available on the 6 speed.

 

mark may kill me but Goldtypes almost traded his pdg for a new 6sp maxima, they only wanted to give him $18k for a trade with his mods. he told them to get bent.

yes i didnt even brake torque and pulled 14.9's with his 2k2 maxima, the track is very nice, it was re-modeled 2 months ago , and the track repaved. Heck i did 14.9 with my CL-S with enough wheelspin to make a dozen erasers!

 

This is from experience. I assume it was a 2k2 MAX cuz of it's Xenons. I pulled up next to it at around 70 ish, but he was MOVING, then I gun it too. By the time I hit 120mph at most, I must have been 4 cars ahead. Now, considering I took on a CLS, NovaWhiteTypeS being my witness since he was in the passenger seat, we went at it from about 60ish. After 80mph it was over. Based on how bad I was pulling at 80 I think I would have put 8 to 10 cars by 120mph.

Based on experience, I would hands down say the MAX on moving start would do some damage. From a standing start, not sure how the race would pan out between the MAX and the CLS. Take it however you like, but watch out for those MAX, they're no slouch...anymore

 

Sorry guys I was in Thailand, I was on vacation before the holidays, now Im back home for the holidays, Are we still talking about spanking these maximas? hehe , I NEVER got a chance to goto the track again, I had to call the meeting with the maxima guy off, plus i heard it rained that day, so whew, didnt spend money.... The trip was good, I saw the HONDA INSPIRE in thailand and they are SWWEEETTT!, TL's with right hand drive! lol , and the thai car enthusiasts were also talking about HONDA's 03' model with 280 HP, the maxima's (CEFIRO'S ) in thailand were nice also, they came with NEO-DI 2.5 V6 's , they were nice, but only had 210 hp. the owner told me that. IT was FUN! im going to start modding my CL-S soon, or maybe wait for the new one

 

As a previous owner of a 2000 Maxima se five speed, I would say that more horsepower would have been welcome. The five speed shifter feel sucked, so I hope the new six speed is better. The problem I have seen around here is that 99% of the Maximas come with an automatic. That said, the handling, opposite sex appeal and acceleration advantage goes to the CL-S (unless the rare six speed pops up).
