Weird Trunk Question
I noticed something interesting last night…
So I was grabbing something out of Stacey’s (stawoo) trunk last night and I when I went to close it, I realized she doesn’t have a latch release located on the inside rear of the decklid like I do (that’s always where I grab mine to close it so I don’t have to touch the paint). Our cars are the same year (’01). The only difference is she’s a CL-p and mine’s a CL-S.
Did they only put this latch on half of them? My car has a bunch of ways to open the trunk lid: Remote, door, under the rear deck-inside (just the ski-pass thru), and the latch that I’m talking about on the inside of the decklid towards the bottom near the latch when it’s closed. It’s a gray plastic latch.
Does yours have one here or not?

Ha! I never even looked at it enough to know that it glows. Cool. Now if I ever get jacked and thrown in my trunk buy "Goodfellas", I'll know how to find it!

It's a safety device that was added mid 2001. Mandated by the government.
My 2001 was an early model and didn't have it.
My 2003 did.
It's ment to glow in the dark for about an hour if you get accidently locked in the trunk.

But here's another question...
Did the government mandate that it actually has to be ON the trunklid? Just curious because I know in my car there is still another trunk popper just behind the rear seat next to the ski pass thru hole. (inside the trunk under the deck)

I have a very early 01 and I have one located just inside the pass through. Is this the same release you guys are talking about? If you look in my trunk, it's just above and to the right of the pass through but it doesn't glow in the dark.

my cl-p has it. Its incase you kidnap someone so they can exit the car. I saw a funny picture on on a rental car. Chrysler Sebring. It hs a comic picture of a guy pulling the handle and jumping off the back of the car whille its speeding away, and being bored one day, my buddy hopped in the trunk and locked himself in and as we drove doing 60 he popped it and jumped off and ran, on video, hularious shiet.

I never used the trunk release latch to close it until yesterday. I always grabbed the corner of my trunk, and living in New England you can't touch a single clean place during the winter! To much sand and road salt. Glad I read this, even knowing I had it, I never thought of using it to close the trunk.
