weird stuff happening

So I start up today and start going and realize for some reason my vtec wasn't engaging. I got into VTEC range and all I would get was a HUGE backfire. Well I reset the ECU just to see if it was a bug. Well it worked, now however, whenever I turn w/ some acceleration the car basically loses power about halfway through, backfires and then gets going again.

Any clue anyone?

This one definately has me stumped.

Keep in mind, I have a 99 3.0

BTW, i have no check lights. Only mods on the car currently are CAI, Greddy Exhaust, AEM Pulleys. Haven't squeezed a bottle through it in a little over a year.

when you say "basically shuts down" do you mean the engine basically DIES for 1 or 2 seconds then it kicks back up?

take it to AutoZone and get them to do one of those ECU scans to see if youre throwing a code. those are usually pretty effective at diagnosing an array of engine probs, especially if its got to do with your O(2) sensor. possibly a vtec solenoid

yea, if it still does it tomorrow i'll go over to my buddies and we'll check to see if it's throwing a code. But it's not otherwise the check engine light would come on.

still, lights fuck up a lot too. i mean hell, if your car is having heart attacks and VTEC isnt kicking in its obvious you need to CHECK your ENGINE. who cares about the check engine light haha.

My civic did a similar thing and I found that one of the plug wires was no longer seated correctly. It wouldn't VTEC and it basically ran like shit, but intermtitently. You might check all the plug wires to be sure.

Low on oil and the light didn't come on? Ummm...better check that out too. As for the VTEC, check the VTEC solenoid. It happened to my civic before. I had a loose cable connecting to it.
