The weight of chrome

I tried searching w/ no luck...

Say I chrome an 18" wheel--How much weight will that add??? I hear everyone who races say that the chrome wheels are heavier- And I do not dispute that --duh

But seriously I don't see the chrome adding enough weight to slow you down more the .1 sec. in the 1/4 mi.

Im just curious....Next in line for upgrading are obviously my wheels and I just want to compare a little ....

Thx.

Thats a tricky question. It depends on the actual amount of surface area that is going to be chromed. An 18 inch rim that weighs 22 lbs stock and has a surface area of (pick a number) 36 sq. inches is going to weigh more then another dipped 18 inch rim that has a surface area of say 30 sq. inches. The other point to look into is that quality of the chrome and how many times they are dipped. Im no expert on rims but it usually adds 3-4lbs per rim.

Also talk to EricL or Scalbert about what 4 extra lbs in chrome unsprung weight on the rims will have on your 1/4 (not to mention your wheel diameter of 18).

it's pretty basic, if you wanna race, go silver or alloy, if you wanna bling it, go chrome

i read that if you get 18's they gotta be 4 pounds lighter than the stock ones (per rim) to keep equal performance of the car. If you gots lots of cash get oz vela's in crome or lorinser lm-5's in crome both rims are really light.

Just find a company that offers aluminum wheels and have them polished. Polishing ads no weight, and aluminum wheels are lighter than any cast steel or alloy wheel.

what happens if you get lighter 18" rims then the stock ones, but the 18" tires are more heavy then the stock one?

the stock rim/tires are the same weight as the 18" rims/tiires? any performance decrease?
