Are we the fastest stock FWD car?

I am wondering if our cars (type-s) are the fastest FWD cars in 0-60 or 1/4 mile?
If not what FWD car is faster?

A lot of cars....

If you meant "in the same price range", then the answer is "no"
Nissan Maxima 2002, is one example

I can tell for sure that CLS is pretty fast, but not the fastest

BMW M3, M5 are way to much faster

M3 and M5 are RWD cars though..Ive seen some FWD Talons and Eclipses that run like low to mid 14 stock..those are very isolated cases though. The CL-S is very quick, and luxurious at that.

I would say the CLS is up there for the fastest front wheel drive of it's weight . Eclipse GST, or Talon ESI would give it a good run, asa well as the Maxima. All BMWs are rear wheel drive, BTW.

Agreed. Why are BMW's always brought into the equation!?

Don't discount the FWD turbo cars. They are fairly quick. The CLS is by far the most luxurious of the bunch, though. And for that, I'll take a car that's .5~1.0 sec slower in the quarter anyday of the week.

Ummn... No....

I beat a RSX-S before I had my headers. Even in almost every magazine, the usual 1/4 mile time for a RSX-S was ~15.2... Maybe you have a ringer, or Soopa's CL's were slow, but usually the RSX-S is NOT faster than the CL-S.

You are right, M3 and M5 are RWD, but what about Lexus GS 400, and other v8 cars, should we even go to cars like Mustang, Corvette?

I am not sure, is Lamborgini RWD?
What about S500, S600 mercedes or other mercedeces, are they all RWD like all german cars?

A GS400, Vette and Mustang are FWD... The only two cars I know of available right now that are FWD that can most likely beat us are the Altima/Maxima/occasional RSX-S

Lambroghini - AWD
Mercedes - (almost all, anyway) RWD
BMW - RWD (except X models)
Acura - (excluding MDX) FWD
Lexus - (all sedana, except ES300) RWD
Audi - All AWD (optional)

I don't think that maxima/altima will beat sls, if they are running on auto. manual is a different story, but looks like manual cls is gonna spank some serious RWD ass too!

speed???

now as for the fastest ...i am telling you the new mercedes c230 AMG evolution is probably the fastest new FWD car... it will never spin it has 5 was adjustable suspension

here are the differences between the stock c230 kompressor and the c-230 evolution:
1) supercharger
2) HKS exhaust
3) upgraded computer
4) smaller pulley=around 85 nore hp!

it will not only blow the doors off our car but just about any FWD car around...as i previously stated it has 285hp at the wheels and over 300 ft. pds of torque...trust me i have raced him..and even thought there are some doubters ..well you have no clue the c-230 kompressor only costs $29000 the AMG evolution well try around $46you all try and order one there is a 7 month waiting list for one and if you want the AMG with leather then you will be waiting about 9!

I knew that BMW was RWD, but never knew that Lexus does that too. It seems that most of the v8 engines are RWD?

Anyway, I am sure maxima will kick our ass with six speed manual and even auto. I think it has better torque and light weight than CLS.

Put it this way...the only car that is stock FWD and auto that can beat the CL-S is maybe the GTP.

Manuals....a lot more, I won't include the Altima or an ITR because you still need a really good driver to beat you....however, the Max seems to only need an okay driver.

Anything else out there FWD!?? As for the C230...wtf!?! Are you on crack....Mercedes only makes RWD cars. And you know what...that goddamn AMG 230 you keep talking about will get smacked around in the $46K range.

I remember a thread like this came up a few months ago....

I don't think a clear winner was chosen... Some say the Dodge Omni GLHS; DiamondStar coupes; Caddy Seville/Deville for HP # (300); ITR; del Sol VTEC... Who knows.

Honda claims it's the RSX-R...

They can move very well. With 300HP and the same in torque help to move it along. But they are heavy, as with most Caddys. But if you line up with one just get the jump and you will stay ahead. They pull well down low and carry on with power as the revs climb. As for drag competition, any decent CL-S should be in front when up to 50 and beyond.

But as the traditions goes, don't run it through the turns. They float way too much, but that is a different thread...

As a side statement, people knock GM all of the time. But this Northstar engine was put into production over a decade ago. 32 Valve DOHC V8 with 100k service intervals while producing 300 HP and 300 lb/ft. Certainly not what is typical of domestic makes and what is thought of from the States. Not to mention the ZR1 Vette, 30 MPG 400 HP 32V DOHC V8 wonder..... In the '80's....

The GTP is an auto, the 4T65E transaxle is a FWD 4-speed transmission. 2nd takes you to about 90 MPH. Add to that weighing in at around 3400 lbs it would move...

IMO, for basic mods in a reasonable passenger vehicle at a decent price, the GTP is the winner. The Maxima had been out for years and even in stick form took alot to get it into the 13's. The last gen GTP had people in the 13's within 1.5 years of the release, '97.

Heck, in stock form I was running 14.7's easily. Add exhaust and intake resulted in a best of 14.41@96 (wow, a much better trap speed than from these new Maxima's...). Add a smaller SC pulley and good fuel (not to mention a good launch) and the times could be in the 13's. at near 100.

The problems come from the interior comforts. If that car added 2k to the price which included a nicer interior I'd drive another. But in the wisdow or the GM designers (or accountants) they went cheap on the interior.

Caddy's, in my opinion, are just highway cruisers. CL-S's will have no problem with them in a typical street race, or a drag race for that matter. Maxima's are nice, but I thing that the car just lacks the "Race Inspiration" that other manafacturers have. Companies like Honda, BMW, Mercedes, have a certain feel for each of them that sets them apart. Most companies mimick one another, or at least I think so. For example, the new M3 I test drove felt like a Honda, not that that's at all bad, but I expected something different for that price. I guess thats why I bought the C32 AMG. My friends CL-S, to me, is a much better bang for the buck than a Beamer. Not taking anything away from the beamer, I just love the Acura's "racey" feel, not too mention it costs substantially less.

Quick Reply: Are we the fastest stock FWD car?
