Washing your engine bay

Never washed mine, so it's FILTHY. Do I just blast water in there, or do I have to cover stuff, et cetera. I don't want to break anything Thanks!

I usually buy the simple green and spray it on the engine bay. However I do cover up the starter and the alternator with some trashbags. Let it soak for about 10min and rinse! Also get some engine detailer and spray on it. Makes the engine bay look like new!

I've found that Simple Green works REALLY well. It's easy on the aluminum parts but cuts through grease nicely. Just squirt it on everything and let it sit for 20 minutes. Then GENTLY hose it off with just the hose with no sprayer on the end. I like to towel dry the motor and then put on some Armor All on everything. I just did it last night!

Use the degreaser but when you hose it off take off the spray nozzle attached to the hose (so you don't force water anywhere). Just let the water run on everything freely but not too long. Just long enough to get off the degreaser.

I just went to a spray carwash place and used the "Engine/Tire" setting (which was green...assuming Simple Green) and sprayed it on, which went all over and then right after I sprayed it off and it made a night and day difference.

BTW, I didn't cover anything, but I would cover the alternator/starter to be safe.

no need to remove the spray nozzle on our cars. No need to cover anything. The only thing I have seen which is VERY rare is some water getting intot he electrical connectors and causing a rough idle....but just blow them dry or the water will evaopare itself after driving for 20 minutes...but like I said this is very rare.

However if u have a distributored ignition system like that of an integra...you should avoid getting water on the distributor or ignition wires...other than that u should be fine.
