Vtec vs 02-04 Firebird
Vtec vs 02-04 Firebird
Well take this as just a friendly little encounter but I was on the freeway coming back from the grocery with the girlfriend. I am following a firebird transam V8 (yes I know its a V8 because every other person has one here in good ole Ohio) This guy about my age is driving (25ish). He's starts slowing down to 65mph so I get in the right lane and slowly go past him. He must not have like that because he speeds up and stays right next to my back bumper and we are rolling about 75ish by this time. The next thing I see is a lane ending sign for his lane and he's going to have to merge with my lane. Instantly I hear him punch it to try to get past me before the lane merge. I instantly punch it as well and by this time I am right at his back bumper (because he had a little head start). We are both gas to the floor his car is roaring and I notice I catch up to him and we are side by side and my vtec is still pulling me on him slowly. (mind this in reg auto mode with a trunk full of groceries ha ha) We get to about 100 and I'm a half car length ahead of him and I then let off because my exit is the next one and I got over to the far right lane. He flips me off and I just smile and wave knowing his big V8 310hp 340tq P.O.S. just got handed to him by a luxery coupe. Given his slow inital pull I'm guessing he was an automatic but with those kinda of hp and tq number his car def. should have slowly pulled on me. Got love the CL-S for battling strong.
(Oh my performance mods are only resonator removed w/ K&N drop in filter btw)
good times

2002 Pontiac Firebird
Model Lineup
Pontiac Firebird is available in coupe and convertible body styles and in three models: Firebird, Formula and Trans Am.
Formula Coupe ($25,865) and Trans Am coupe ($27,895) and convertible ($31,965) are powered by a 310-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 engine, with a 325-horsepower WS6 Ram Air option available. They all have the four-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment, but can be equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox.
and don't even pull that bs flag sh*t here you little 19yr old flamer.
I know what happened ....and I have no reason to lie. I was just as surprised as he was. Like I said before he must have been an auto because if he was stick (and a good driver) he should have taken me.
P.S. We all know GM underates their power...sometimes...but the cars are still just with those auto transmissions.
Next time go f yourself before you comment on sh*t you don't "really" know what happened. oh and one more thing 340 to the wheels stock? get off your fake high horse you stupid redneck. I deal with you idiots everyday.
LS1 = underrated (350hp+ at the crank) in which case he wasn't trying ... auto or not ... you'd loose badly. Chevy underrated the LS1 powered F-bodies as to not encroach on Corvette sales. Hence they run mid 13s in the 1/4.
However ... if it was a pre 1998 4th Gen with an unmodded LT1 (they more or less look the same ... ) it could be true.
Have fun … drive safe. There’s another active thread going on with a similar story except the Acura-CL member got caught by the police and had his car impounded for a month.

All I'm saying is this 02 Firebird...and yes it was a 02 Firebird has 310 hp if he was auto he has alot less than that to the wheels. I'm not saying I'm faster than all 02 Firebirds just this dumbass in this one @ 70+ mph. I know I beat the driver but its still a win and yes he was trying because if he wasn't his car wouldn't have been roaring and he would have ended up in the ditch because he was trying to cut me off in my lane. If he would have been cool and just pulled behind me none of this would have happened. He will think twice next time he tries to cut someone off and be a dick!!
As for the driving safe...yes I try to most of the time..but in certain cases people are dicks and spur of the moment actions happen. Yes they may be the wrong decision but its going to happend no matter how safe you are.
I remember riding in my friend 94 Firebird auto back in the day, the one with 275 HP, and sorry to say that thing was way quicker than my 03 CL-S auto ever was, even with i/h. I'm not saying you're lying, but maybe he wasn't all the way on it? Or maybe his tranny was slipping like crazy?
Listen, I am not trying to bash you, but please listen to what I have to say.
The '98+ Trans Ams have the LS1 engine which yes, is rated at 310hp, but is STRONGLY underrated by GM because they do not want to have a car that is $12-16,000 cheaper than the Corvette have the same numbers because then people wouldn't be buying the Corvette, it's all about marketing.
When dyno-ing a stock LS1, you see numbers around 300rwhp, please, go on LS1tech.com and look for yourself. These cars run low 13s stock, I'm sorry but you could not win that race if it was in fact what you say it was. It could've been a V6, or the '94-97 LT1 engine which would be more believable.
This car is just as the new BMW 335i which is rated at 300hp 300tq but puts out around that at the wheels, they just do not want to say the car is 350ish crank horsepower when they have the new M3 coming out which is only around 400hp but costs $10-15,000 more.
