Very Loud Cold Air???
Just installed the headers this weekend. Well at the same time, while i had the car up on the lift changed the transmission fluid, and oil, while i was letting it drip out i pulled the resonator off. Let the car down to fill it up with oil/atf and started looking at the air box.
Well we had a 4.5" cone on the mustang (2 3/4) inlet before we put the supercharger on (had it's own intake) so the filter was lying on the shelf. Got to looking, how about hooking it up...
Well dug into the plumbing supplies came out with a 3" schedule 40 ell and street ell, along with a few lenghts of pipe and a 45.
How to mount now, short ram style or down through the wheelwell.
Well down in the wheel well would put it pretty close to the bottom plastic and no bypass valve, and a little more mouting required. ended up with a short ram set up.
Short piece in the rubber intake, to a 90 degree, rubber coupler and filter inplace. End result is a short intake with a cone filter in the area of the old box, just over where the resonator would be.
Big problem now, it's f'n loud when you open up the plenum at 5000 rpm. Majorly loud, like a damn machine gun or something. I know some of the noise is from the headers but the majority is from the intake. Anyone have a short ram type intake, and is it loud....and how loud is the standard AEM style intake. Is the intake louder than the exhaust at WOT or not? (this is CL-s exhaust and OBX headers.
Thanks for the input.
Joe

a short ram will be louder than a cold air...if you want a nice compromise put the stock box back in but leave out the lower resonator...but leave in the rubber boot the would have joined them...you can thank me later..p.s. after you decide how you like that ...go buy a K&N drop in panel filter and youll have the same performance as your short ram set up

Short ram will be louder. I made my own out of PVC pipe a PVC elbow and a rubber peice to adapt the throttle body to the pipe. Got a K&N knockoff cone filter from autozone for $20. LOL! I dont even have a mount for it! it just flops around in there.
Notice the noise at 3500+ thats when you can really hear it. When you hit around 5500 it just screams!! I love the noise of it so I WOT all the time. It kinda sucks though sometimes I don't feel like racing and people think i'm racing them when i'm really mearging on the freeway.
Overall I love the noise, the maybe 5 HP it adds, and seeing peoples heads snap over when I WOT!!
Anyone else share my addiction? (should I have a poll?)

well pulled it off, and back to the stock box, no resonator. Much better sounding. you can hear the headers a bit, but it sounds good overall.
with one LOUD car, i wasn't looking for another (actually being quiet is the CL-S strongest attribute in my book); really was looking for more power, so i guess i'll stick with this setup for a while. When i get a chance to hear some true full length cold airs (like the aem) on a car, then i'll decide on buying one.

roo...just grab a K&N panel and you'll have just as much power...also..did you leave that rubber boot in the bottom of the upper air box if you do there will be little to no hiss
