Someone has to go the other way. Might as well be me. I agree with the results. The source not with standing. When you factor in price the ESCORT at $100 less wins. I have both the 8500 and the V1. The ESCORT is in my car the V1 is in my girlfriend's car.

OK then, using your logic can I assume that you'd be willing to substantiate ownership of a vehicle costing 2/3's of another over the vehicle which is obviously superior regardless of price? 2/3's performance, 2/3's equipment, etc. Price should not be the controlling factor in a decision of which performs better.

Passport 8500 is an excellent radar detector and so is V1. It's all about tradeoffs again, folks.
Here's my take since I've used both.
-- V1 arrows are awesome
-- V1 has longest range and detection capabilities
-- V1 isn't as selective and not as easy to mute as 8500
I drive a ton in a big city. V1 just falsed too darn much. Yes, yes, I know that is because it is so sensitive, and yes I know you can turn off a band. But Walgreen's uses K-band and so do the cops out here in places.
I have 8500 right now in my car because it is sensitive, doesn't false as much, and is easy to mute. I there is no doubt that V1 is awesome, it is. But to hear it going off almost all the time on a Denver area drive was a bit much.
You want better selectivity, easier muting, great detection range and sensitivity, and if cost is a factor, go 8500.
You want the best sensitivity, longest detection range, and cool ass arrows, go V1.
I'm telling you, you are getting industry-leading engineering and protection which ever one of these two RDs you choose.

btw can the v1 tell you the number of radar signals per band plus the signal strength all in 1 display?
once on a highway I was getting hit w/ 1 strong KA, and 2 weak K's followed by two strong K's.
well first it was a state trooper in the median shooting KA then two fairfax country cops on a bike about 1/4 mile down the road.
yes the V1 would of told you 3 and showd you arrows pointing foward and lite up k, and ka but doesn't show the strenght.
Also does the v1 have auto mute? or wat about actually displaying the frequency and band the radar is ? why do i need this feature? cause CVS uses K band and so does the local cops but on diff K band freq. so I KNOW when its real vs. false alarm.

How to tell an 8500 user on the road: they're the driver with their head spinning in all directions trying to find the source.
BTW, if you want to minimize the falsing just put the V1 in big L mode (full logic) in urban areas.

Good one...
Wow, there sounds like an incredible market opportunity for someone inventive and innovative: a radar detector with the best of both worlds (V1 & 8500). Throw in GPS and that would sell!
