The Type-S does engage at 4800, and the regular CL engages higher.

I assume you are just viewing the stock tach with a naked eye? This is a very inaccurate way to judge RPM. The stock tach's are not the most accurate devices.

I have been thinking about a cluster mod - specifically moving the speed to where the tach currently is, and custom fitting like an autometer tach where the speedo normally resides. Would be tight.

also like a shift the point at which it starts the process and completes is gonna be two different things

Maybe this is why I can hear VTEC start to scream at 5000 RPM instead of 4800? I've noticed this for quite a while, was wondering in the back of my mind all this time of that was abnormal or not ..

On my girlfriends 01 CL-P I hear VTEC crossover at around 4500.

Yeah that guide is definitely wrong. The crossover point is defined and clear on the dyno and the street.

Yeah the Pees definitely engage VTEC at a lower RPM, correlating with their lower redline. When I had my VTEC Controller I took the car all the way to 7200, the "true" redline for the type s, and the VAFC read 6900 or 6999 (can't recall which) when the tach read 7200...The VAFC was hooked to the ECU so I would trust that more than the speedo, so our RPM's are off by at least 200 RPM. I even used to think my VTEC engaged around 5K as well until I got the VAFC lol

Maybe that documentation for the VTEC was a 1G J CL/TL or F22?
