UR Pulley Update..

I know we had a big discussion on the UR pulleys multiple times a while back. I personally just ordered a set for my CL, and will be putting them on tomorrow.

So basically i just want to ask everyone with the UR pulley's installed; Mileage on them to date...w/ no problems or w/problems..of main bearings, charging sys/alt, cooling sys/water pump?

thanks!

No problems with the SS kit, just switched over ot the Sc crank pulley and personally think you should just go for that since the difference isn't noticeable and your no longer underdriving your accessories.

Do you need new belts with the stock sized crank pulley?

Nope, stock size belts. From what I've read, the Sc creates more low to mid power and not as much up top, whereas the underdrive creates more throughout the entire range. Of course, I don't know personally, but that's what the dyno's on other vehicles would lead you to believe.

Oh yeah, and no problems with mine so far (S version)

Might have felt a little torqueier that was my first impression however it was late at night and you know how our cars love it when the air is cold

Belts are stock size, but man oh man, do I have a story for you just on the belts,

Apparently here are the stock sizes that stores will tell you:
P/S 4040440
Alt 4060460

Had hard time with the belts and called Goodyear only to find that they no longer recomend those belt sizes instead they recomend the following:
P/S 4040440 (minus a mm) not a big deal just hard to get on.
Alt 4060465 (.5" longer) not possible to get on even with tensioner pulled all the way back.

Basically make sure you get the 465 alternator belt, its like $6-7 more for an extra half inch but its worth it.

I pretty much figured out the best way to remove the crank pulley to. I used a lug wrench that comes with the car and the extension from the jack and had it rest up against the inner suspension components so that when you crank the motor it has no where to go and so it breaks the bolt loose.

About 10k miles with my UR underdrive pulley. Better gas mileage (about 1.5 mpg increase), more power. No problems.

i remember reading something on here about how the lack of a harmonic balancer can damage our engine. then someone said it was internally balanced to begin with. so nobody's had problems with these pulleys? UD or SS? i'm considering it but this car is my daily driver so i want to keep it reliable. racing and going all out on speed is what the S2000 is gonna be for...:-)

Where did you notice the power gain? I'm doing the UR crank pulley in about 2-3 weeks. Thanks!

Correct there's no balancer. So there should be zero problems with the ud crank pulley.

Its been a while with it, but id say 3,800 to redline. It just gets there so quickly, you shouldn't be disappointed.

ive had mine on for about a month and half and no problems, about 1500-1800 miles. I have the underdrive crank only. Did not feel alot of gain in lower rpms, but i felt the power starting around 3500 rpms

Its a good mod & good luck

Nice, sounds good, thanks for the feedback guys. I'm doing the motor mounts and UR crank pulley at the same time, so hopefully it's pretty noticeable afterwards.

i've had my UR pulley in for about 9 months with absolutely no problems. although i haven't put a whole lot of mileage on, i have gone on a few mountain runs and done my share of straight line acceleration. so it's held up very well.

Just installed mine yesterday, great power gains from 3500+
You guys did not steer me wrong; as well as Josh from excel..(great guy).
Probably one of the best mods for the buck!
Might order oversized pulley for the alternator though..charging system voltage is kind of low at idle w/ a/c, D3, and all my other stuff on. Live in city also )=

Thanks guys!

okay i got the pully set (stock size) in the other day and went to install them today....what a pain in the @ss. long story short i got the power steering and alt. pully in and i gave up on the crank pulley. i'm gonna get an impact gun with 1000 ft lb of torque cuz 750 is not cutting it...to be continued....

I used 2 air compressors, with a combined tank size of 55 gallons and 6hp, 25 ft of 1/2 id air hose with line pressure of 110 lbs powering a new 3/4 inch drive Ingersoll Rand impact with a 1100 ft. lb torque rating. Once the line pressure got up to 110 lbs., that IR impact took off that pulley bolt in 3 seconds flat. Brrraaaapp and it was off....nothing beats 1000+ lbs of torque.......

how do you use two air compresors?

I purchased a t-fitting and connected the air lines from the compressors to the fitting and output to the 1/2 inch i.d. air hose which went to the impact gun:

The combined tank size gave me enough air volume to operate the big impact and the combined compressor motors to fill the air tanks quickly. 110 lbs line pressure was enough to make that IR impact light up!!

damn. let's hope it doesn't come to that. gonna go at it tomorrow so i'll let you know. quick update-drove around with the alt and power steering pullies....no noticeable power increase (though i'm sure there is some). did those of you who installed the crank feel the increase right away or did it take a couple a days? ur instructions say it will take a couple of days for the car to "adjust itself".

At first no, but thats mostly at low rpms. You'll definitley feel something at high rpms, just from how fast it revs, but it will take the time they suggested for the full benefits to be felt.

all you need is a chain pulley wrench, and a long 1/2 drive ratchet with a 19mm. Gets the bolt right out. You dont need two compressors, impact gun, or anything. Impact may damage the internals due to vibration and shock.

You can do it that way too, but using the impact is faster and much easier (I have the equipment on hand so it makes sense to that route). I have done many timing belt and timing chain replacements on Hondas and other makes of cars and I have never experienced problems or internal damage due to using an impact gun.
