how do the techs in the Acura servica dept. traditionally look at mods like a "chip" or an ECU piggback?

i think it would be better if they didn't look at it. i'm assuming this thing unplugs relatively easily.

Good question. I know from experience that Acura dealerships (those who do CT installs) have no problem with mods like CT intake/headers/exhaust and maybe even a SC as long as they installed it. They might be okay with and ECU remapper/piggyback as long as they've approved it and installed it. But these type of devices can do a lot more damage to an engine than intake or exhaust mods. So I'm guessing overall this might be a real issue with Acura. But you can allways unplug the device before taking it into the dealer.

Are they going to wait for the carb certification before releasing it for sale? Cause that takes a long time to get from what I've been told.

Comptech intalls they have no problem b/c comptech has a deal w/ Acura/Honda to make aftermarket parts that will NOT AFFECT THE WARRANTY...just like saleen, trd performance, etc...Thats one of the main reasons why comptech stuff cost so friggin much. If ur Acura dealer installs the unichip...they might warranty stuff....however if not...pray cause if they find it...you will never get shit warrantied...TRUST ME. Howvwer if the defective problem on the car is like a suspension noise---they can't refuse warranty cause of a unichip. If the problem is like a check-engine light w/ a map sensor problem or shit like that...break out the wallet!!!

Hey Red Rider, I see you've got the Rotora Big Brake Kit, Volk TE37s 18x7.5 rims and Toyo Proxes T1-S 225-40s. What offset are your rims and what size front rotors? I'm considering the same type of rims except 17x7.5 using Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 225/50s with the Brembo 13" front brake kit.

I actually called my dealer and told them i wanted Comptech parts and they said they won't do the install. They told me that parts will void warranty.

If comptech voids warranty them Chip will void for sure!

Comptech does not void any warranty for any reasons...no matter what...Also CCtypes...my friend has a white saleen convertible...he has had warranty stuff done plenty of times...what exactly do you mean???If any dealer tells you that they don't warranty parts cause comptech voids the warranty...they're lying...call Comptech or find another dealer...

if a dealer says that they won't warrenty comptech go to a different on, I went to one dealer and they said it would void the warrenty if the aftermarket product might have caused the problem, but then i went to a dealer that sells comptech and they will warrenty it just as if you bought it on the car, hell they said they would install the supercharger and warrenty it all for 5200$ mighty tempting!!

What an absolute rip-off .. there are soooo many other cars I'd rather throw down $45,000 on ... not to mention 1 or 2 year old cars that I'd love to put that money on ...

I can understand the 31,710 msrp plus 1000.00 for headers, 300.00 for intake .. but c'mon .. they should have a s/c on that thing for what they're charging ...

A couple years ago, I saw a white TL-S with CT stuff at the dealer...it was around $38,000, I think. At the time, I had no clue about modding a CL/TL, so I thought it was just some kinda silly kit and suspension that wouldn't really help the car much. Who knew?

The offset is 48 and the rotors are 13.1. The brake upgrade has been awesome, no fade after big time braking in the twisties

Cool, we're meeting up with the Bay area guys at Heather Farms in Walnut Creek on July 12th, maybe you can join us then. We'll have a nice little caravan hopefully.

now that price seems way more realistic... plus that's always negotiable.. usually.

I have been in contact with Allen at Opak a couple of times and encouraged him to expedite the development of the CL-S Unichip. He will need to baseline a stock car before mapping my S/C'd auto...best guess is that he will be ready for me at the end of July

wow this is badass, cant wait for this thing to really get movin!

couple questions tho... would u have to install this at the acura dealer or some other performance parts store or like dyno shop or somethin? or is it somethin we can install? since ppl have been talkin about just unplugging it when taking their car into the dealer for service...

so basically after we would have this chip and every other mod we do, we "reprogram" the chip to fully adjust to the mods and stuff .. do we know yet if thats gonna cost more money to reprogram everytime we get a new mod?!

***UPDATE***

I just got off the phone with Allen. I asked him what is the status with the piggy back. He said that he got intouch with the company sometime ago and they are working on the Ignition Module. He said right now they can control fuel, big deal the VAFC can do the same. Anyway he said that it should be another month , BUT IT IS BEING DONE.

He said that they can take off the speed govenor, but that would require the ECU to be sent to them. As for the rev limiter, the piggy back can take care of that. As for going into redline, I wouldn't recomend it because there is no atainable power in that range. Dyno charts have proven it. In order to get anymore power after 7K, the cams would need to be changed in order to accomodate the extra fuel and exhast lift + duration at those high RPMs.

I also confirmed with him that he will allow the release of the software that would allow us (ME ) the ability to reporgram the chip, without having to send it out to Opac.
