UniChip installed!

So I installed the bad boy and it's running on Map A (Intake, Headers, exhaust). I ran a few prelim runs and so far so good no CEL codes have been thrown since the chip is in learning mode right now. I'll be putting my car on the dyno this week and I'll post up results as soon as possible. I'm hoping to see that she should be pushing close to 300 to the crank and up to 250 to the wheels.

I'll keep you all updated. Wish me good luck!

Did you ever get it tuned? The chip does not have a relearning mode.

250 to the wheels? in a cl-p? unless you dropped in the type S intake manifolds, TB, cams, heads, pistons. you won't even be close.

I'm just all in hopes though. When I get the car dynoed I'm going to have them tune the car as well.

You'll be lucky to see 200 at the wheels. Honestly...

And like someone said above... there is no "learning mode"

I meant the ECU is learning off of the chip

Wasn't it said before that the CL-S puts down 220 to the wheels stock?

NM I'm eating my own words...205-215 is probably more like it...

S/C'ed and NOS would send me over 250 whp.

type S intake manifolds, TB, cams, heads, pistons are all in good times. I'm like a lil kid when I put more crap on my car.

EDIT: I'm still going to post up results from the DYNO when that is accomplished.

I know, but at the time I wasn't looking for a 6-speed. I wanted an auto because my knees are f'ed up. Besides, it's fun being different.

The ECU doesn't even know the chip is there... if it did the car would not be very happy.

then the ECU would adjust the A-F ratio back to normal: therefore, making the Unichip worthless.

I'm am interested in what the Unichip can do for you though. Are you going to be doing before and after dynos? Meaning before the Unichip, not before the tune.

That makes no sense because in the directions it states that the ECU is in learning mode with the new map hooked up to it.

Here's a quick side note from the directions:

Note: (1) When you removed battery power from the vehicle like you did when installed the PnP kit, the "learning" maintained in the ECU's volatile memory is erased. All vehicles, but especially modified vehicles, will take several trips to again run smoothly.

That in turn must mean that any modification made to any vehicle including ours, it's ECU goes into "learning mode" to adjust to what was bolted on, fabricated, etc., etc.

Does that make sense?

EDIT: The ECU has to know it's there. It doesn't make sense if it didn't.

Well, good news, no CEL codes are popping up, and the car seems to run a lot smoother. Maybe its just me, but I swear I feel more power after the chip was installed.

-Or maybe my mind is playing tricks on me

This thing ever fit a 6MT? Last I heard(some time ago) it was for auto only. Is it plug & play or do you have to make it work?

Sometimes I think the smoothness makes it feel more power has been added.

I bought one a while back that was used in an '01 CL, and it had to have been auto only. When I went to install it, none of the connectors matched up. I'm assuming that there's either two different models (one for 5AT, one for 6MT) or there's only one and it won't work with our 6 speeds. However, I haven't been able to find one for my 6MT and have pretty much given up.

Yeah that's the last I heard, they were not making it for a 6mt so I stopped following it.

Look... if the ECU detected any change in timing or fuel it would make the adjustments so that the car runs as it was intended to from the factory.

The UniChip is NOT detected in any way by the ECU. The UniChip alters the signals from the ECU.

yea it goes like this...

Signal In ---> ECU ---> Signal Out ---> Unichip ---> Altered Signal Out

Ok...I understand that logic. I was baffled the first time you explained it. Thanks Steve and Clean.

EDIT: You'd think they would make one for the 6MT. They must of had issues with it from the beginning so it's not mass produced. Hmmm.

Wow, you installed that pretty quickly. Now get that puppy tuned! Sorry I didn't get a chance to come out and meet you...I was busy seeing patients I guess.

From what I remember, they needed to have a car on-site to do testing for the 6-spd but nobody stepped up to the plate. There aren't all that many 6-spds out there anyway.

The car is going to get dynoed then tuned soon. It's cool, I figured you were busy. I'll post up results when they come in.

I'm getting her dynoed on Friday after work w/a tune as well. She is still running really well too. I'm very curious to see what the chip has done for my car.

Go CL-P!!!!

This guy is my hero...get those #'s up and fast, show these Type-S guys we can run with them. I just got headers for my '01 CL-P, but they are not installed yet which sucks...

obviously a Type-S is a better car, but for me personally, all I could afford was the CL-P...there was no other choice for me, so this is all I got to work off of. Solid car stock as we all know so I can't wait to floor it at 4,000RPM in second gear with the tiptronic on once the headers are in...(the headers mainly work at high RPM). I just can't wait...

The Comptech headers give "+32HP" so 225HP + 32HP = 257HP and the CL-P is a TINY bit lighter, should run like a Type-S, eh? this is what my logic tells me, but there may be more to those Type-S's than I know...

Exclamation

^^^^I've ran with a few Type-S CLs and I can pull away...not by a country mile but she does have some balls to throw down.

I just can't wait to install the Type-S IM, S/C'er, and Nos

EDIT: Hold on a second. When did the CL-P ever become lighter than the type-S?

ok, i just remember putting it into my head that it is a fact that the CL-P is lighter. Don't go searching around, cuz I just did that on autotrader.com. Turns out the CL-P is lighter ...but by only 100lbs, so doesn't even matter....Nevermind!! ok back to w/e you all were doing, false alarm...

I had to look....

2001 CL-P 3470 lbs
http://www.edmunds.com/used/2001/acu...479/specs.html

2001 CL-S 3510 lbs (the Type-S is a big bitch )
http://www.edmunds.com/used/2001/acu...481/specs.html

EDIT: I'm not hating on the Type-S, I'm just saying they're heavy.

EDIT 2: Even Edmunds.com is stating that the '03 Type-S auto/6MT are 3510 lbs!

Don't worry JBlue, I'll give you a run for your money when I'm done with my car by next year. You'll see.

Floored it at 4,00RPM's???, I have a cl-p with no engine MODS and with triptronic or no triptronic I floor it up to 6,000RPM's and also floored with 20inch wheels on the car.

The Type-S is only 40lbs heavier than the CL-P... hardly a noticeable difference

Props to you for being so excited over having what you perceive to be a "quick" CL-P. Just remember that if someone with a Type-S spent the same amount of cash on their car it would absolutely blow the doors off of your car.

I really really really have a hard time trying to justify doing engine mods to the CL-P when for a few extra grand you could have had a Type-S.
