Uneven Doors?
Uneven Doors?
Hey guys, i was looking at my car today and noticed that it seems as though my front door is not fully closed. Also a little lower than the rear side panel, chrome doesn't line up perfects, the front door is a little lower. Is this normal? Not sure about the door not fully closed since my car just went thorugh snow storm and is covered with salt and i just cleaned off the door edge which may just mess witht the vision. I hope this is normal Thanks

Ignorance is bliss!
The doors on our cars (as well as almost all vehicles these days.) Are put on the car for painting, then removed from the vehicle, as soon as it leaves the paint shop, for sub-assembly (Install window, speakers, wiring, panels etc...) Then once the door is completed, is meets back up with the car, later in the assembly process where it is re-hung. Because of the weight of the door, a counter balanced, install and alignment jig is used to install the door on the vehicle. This equipment is designed to place the door in the exact same place everytime, and has very little, if no room for error. So if your door is mis-aligned, blame the guy who designed the rig. Oh that would be an "educated" engineer.
The bottom rear corners of my doors stick out a little from the rear panel. This is not due to the way the door was hung, but actually due to the fact the door itself, the frame and skin, are stamped and welded together with a lesser radius than what is required. Usually because the dies in the stamping plants wear, or were designed incorrectly. AGAIN! An "educated" engineer.
Some of you make such ignorant statements like "lazy factory workers" so fast, that you call attention to what a complete fucking moron you really are. Especially with regards to vehicle design and assembly.
Are there line workers who fuck up? YES!
Is every problem on your car due to poor labor? NO!
Are more problems attributed to design than assembly. YES! These days more than ever.
Another thing you over look is your dealer. Many of these issues, or slight imperfections are supposed to be caught and fixed by the dealer during the delivery prep process. The dealer actually gets paid by the manufacturer, a fee if you will (built into his invoice price), to go over the cars at the time of delivery prep, and take care of these issues. But instead, they do a half ass job, and pocket the cash. PURE PROFIT BABY!

Yeah .. my driver's door was out of alignment too .. was almost a 1/4" low at the back end (when comparing chrome piece to chrome piece). The door sills were all scratched to shit too (especially around the hinge). My dealer took 3 attempts at the body shop to realign the door (which still is a bit low at the back) and fix all the paint (trained monkeys could do a better job than the dealer did).
Regardless of how it happens, this just points to REALLY BAD quality control on Acura/Honda's part .. if their hopes are to 'run with the big dogs', they better do a much better job of 'easy stuff' during the manufacturing process.
