Type S vs GTP
My co-worker has been wanting to race me with his GTP ever since I got my 2002 Type S. So this afternoon after we both pull out of the parking lot we lined up at the stop sign (East hanger road JFK Airport) with no cars around and a 1/2 mile of open road till we hit a main road, we were ready to go.
My friend asked if we can race from a rolling start and not from a stop due to his tranny having some slippage. I agreed and on a count of 3 we both floored it from a rolling start. Immedially he pulls on me by almost a car lenght. I was like what the @$#%.
I looked at my dash and notice that I was in 2nd gear and not in first. Well too late for that but even so I was able to pull on him a little till I was less then a car lenght behind before we had to shut down. Damn Acura has the tranny programed to automatically shift from 1 to 2 if you dont go hard on 1.
I`m going to race him tomorrow again and this time from a stop. I`ll show him what the Type S can do.

I will post my results

Gate-shifting allows you to redline first gear. SS shifts for you. The difference isn't HUGE but when the CLS only has 3 usable gears every little advantage helps.

You guys dont seriously assume that a run against a GTP is an automatic win for you, do you? I think the two cars are pretty close, with the average GTP time maybe being a click or two quicker. And the GTP's main strength is from a stop with 280 ft/lbs of torque. Good luck, you're going to have to drive it right to win a race from a stop.

Type S vs GTP
Ok here are the results of my rematch with my friends GTP.
We raced from a stop this time and I used the gate shift method as advised by a member on this forum.
We both had a good start and the GTP pulls on me right from the start but only by half a car lenght. Along side him till 60-65 m/hr we were join to the hips with him still half a car lenght in front.
Red line 2nd and shift into third I started to pull on him slowly. My engine was screaming so loud but sweet I didnt even know how fast we were going. As I approach reline on third I had caught up and was ever so slightly pulling on him. We shut down with him just less then 1/4 lenght behind next to me.
Both cars stock with no mods off the line, the GTP has a advantage thanks to it 280 lbs/ft torqe but thats about it.
1/4 mile and longer Type S is the KING of the hill.

If he has the cheap pully mod on under the hood.. You are going to have a hard time catching up.. That thing gives those guys 30 extra hp. I've raced against pulleyd GTP's and never won. Unless I get RES and whatever bogus upgrades, I don't think it'll happen... Also you need a near perfect launch to beat a GTP, unless they flub it. These cars stock to stock are neck and neck.
