Thumbs up Two Mods Every CL-S 6MT Should Have

Just recently did 2 small mods that I absolutely LOVED, and had to share.

1. stainless steel clutch line - to bypass clutch dampening device
2. aluminum shifter cable bushings

These 2 mods costed me about $50.00 total in parts and labor, and I'm sure most people could do them themselves. I just decided to have a buddy of mine that works for Acura do them. Anyway after both of these mods the car noticeably shifts much more precisely, the gearbox feels much tighter, the clutch has much firmer pedal feed, and clutch engagement is by far more precise. It basically feels like the 6-speed SHOULD have come from the factory. Zero noise, zero issues, etc. Probably the only 2 mods I have done that I notice everytime I drive the car.

I've been thinkin' about doin' those 2. Hope it takes some of the notchiness outta some of the gears from time to time. Clutch pedal is very firm right now so I don't know how it can improve much.

corsportusa.com for the bushings, did them and I like it, not as big of a difference as on the Civic Si but its still there.

So I guess I need to do the clutch line

any difference between the aluminum ones from corsport and the brass ones from http://www.speed-source.net/ ?

brass ones are cheaper for me as it's $28 inc. shipping to canada.

Looks to be about the same except the brass ones might look cooler once installed.

You won't even see the shifter bushing once it's installed, it's under the hood. So I would just go with the Accord V6 6-speed one I think it was from Corsport.

The CLS 6spd is the best MT I've every shifted, so I'm not messing with it

Also, the jury is still out on the removal of the CDD. I bought my CL 'cause it's a luxury car, not a race car... I don't want to increase the NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) that some have reported after this mod. The dampener is there to isolate the driver from the clutch, and I'm ok with that....

I have the bushings but have not installed them. I got the 04TL ones. They seems to be the same ones as ours. In fact I thing the RSX TL accord TSX all are the same.

The dampener bypass I'm still getting used to. Clutch engagement is faster, & the clutch & shifts do feel better, but I'm still out on the increased NVH. Maybe it's just because I've driven 2 6mt't for so long with a "normal" setup It just feels weird.

Not to knock our six speeds, but have you driven an S2000? I do love my CLS 6, but I have not driven a 6 speed that even comes close to the S2000's gearbox. My friend even had an 03 NSX that I drove regularly and it was smooth, but still not as good a gearbox as the S2000.

personally, i have not had any added NVH to my car. you might feel a little in the pedal but definitely not transferred to the car. feels the same, just a little stiffer at the end of the clutch travel (due to the SS line, not the CDD). if you were to use the stock rubber line, i don't think you'll have a problem. also, my granny shifting 1-2, 2-3 is MUCH smoother. i didn't think that the CDD would solve that (i thought it was only fast movement of fluid that would 'engage' the CDD), but it's entirely gone. sure, you have to pay more attention to what you're doing (and if you drop the clutch, you will feel it), but i think it's a worthwhile mod.

i'm just worried about the softness of brass vs. the hardness of aluminum, and any apparent future-proofing. i don't want to have to replace the brass ones in a few years !

I have to agree (and the folks at Motor Trend do too). The S2k gearbox is killer. I've driven Ferraris and Lambos that can't come close to my mom's husband's S2k's gearbox.

Neuspeed short shift adapter is more important I think.

i think that it's more than just 2.
1. neuspeed short shifter
2. heavier shorter shift knob
3. shifter cable bushings
4. SS clutch line
5. if possible, cut off one inch of the lever

i need 3 more of these mods =]

Interesting.....

I am posting to subscribe if I ever decide to do this. Are there any downfalls or side effects?
