Trouble with Discount Tire

I ordered Toyo Proxes 4s from Discount Tire and got them installed last week. They were cool about price matching and sold them to me for only $103 each. After driving on them I started to notice my steering wheel shaking at highway speeds. So i called them and they told me to bring it back to rebalance the wheels.

I went back yesterday to have them rebalanced. Turns out they were off, by as much as an ounce on one, and .5 ounce on the other. The guy told me that they were balanced with the "static method" which doesn't put the weights on the inside lip of the wheel like they should have been. So that right there sucks, they didn't even balance my tires right the first time.

But then, after he balanced one wheel, he sets it down and tells another guy to grab it and put it on my car. Well the guy was taking his sweet time about getting it, so I start to push it over to my car to lean it on my rotor so it doesn't fall over. When I do this the second guy is like "don't worry man, I got it". And I say "well I just don't want it to fall over, these wheels scratch up very easily."

So he takes the wheel and rolls it to the other side of my car and proceeds to immediately drop it face down on the concrete. I quickly walk over and pick it up and notice scuffs on every spoke where it sticks out from the tire. I started cussing and say "see! this is what I was saying, look how the wheel sticks out, you just scratched it all up." The kid was obviously new, he didn't even know what side the directional tire went on. He then goes over to the first guy who's working on my second wheel and tells him what happend.

So then I go talk to the first guy and he says "looks like you need a new wheel." I say "well i didn't till he dropped it." I'm being courteous and polite and all. So the guys says "we'll go inside and talk about it." So we go in and he pulls out this catalog to find my wheel and order me a new one, which was great by me. Everything seems fine, I'm gonna get a new wheel, even though that will mean a second stop to this place I shouldn't have had to make.

But then he calls me today and says the warehouse didn't have any CLS wheels in stock so I can bring my car in and he will give me a temp wheel and send mine off to get fixed. So I have to go there 2 more times and what am I getting for all this trouble????

What can I do? I don't want him to fix my wheel, i want a new one. I know the way this is going the wheel will come back messed up, or be painted and not match or something!

Where can I buy a new CLS wheel for a good price?? I'm thinking about just finding a place and then giving him the number and making him order me one from there. Anyone got any advice?

Damn, thats sucks... I really hat egiving my car to a place where I cant see what is going on.

I would tell them that either you want a NEW wheel of they will have to deal with your attorney from this point on. See if they call your bluff.

That sucks, but it does happen. Just do a bunch of searching for your wheel online and you should be able to find one. I would ask them if you could just buy it and they can reimburse you when it arrives. This way you know exactly what you are getting. And I wouldnt want it repainted unless they guarantee that it will be 100% perfect.

I wouldn't even let them do it if its going to be 100% perfect. The only way I'd come out of this is with a new wheel. Find someone who sells the wheel, get the price in writing, and show him the bill. Then make his mount and balance it for free.

An Acura dealer sells CL-S wheels. Make them order from Acura.

I found a couple places just searching in google. Price is about $180, so I'm gonna call then tomorrow and if they don't go for that, i'm just gonna go up the chain until someone will work with me.

At least they're going to take care of it. They could have easily not taken responsibility for it. Be thankful!

I saw it happen, they couldn't dispute their responsibility.

I'm really not that upset at the people there, except the idiot that dropped my wheel, i'm just upset at the situation and the trouble. And after i get settled on the idea of a new wheel, they take the offer back and make me waste more of my time.

A valet messed one of my original CL wheels and I would have been pretty suprised if the wheel I paid top dollar (at the dealer) came from a repair shop. (I now run SSRs)

I would call around to your local Acura shops and ask if they have your wheels in stock.

If they have the wheels in stock, call the Discount Tire and tell them. Discount Tire should be able to get a "trade" discount from the dealer.

OTOH, if a wheel is fixed by a shop that knows what they are doing, it will look pretty nice.

Needless to say, I hope you aren't going back to that shop again...

Ouch, I'm there with ya. I know how painful it can be travelling back and forth for wheel repairs.

If it makes you feel any better, just know that there are people with far worse experiences.

Why don't you take a look on e-bay for a wheel. I've been looking and there are a few new and a few take-offs ... either would be fine as long as their perfect.

^^^ i know, that's why I'm really not pissed at any one person, mostly the situation. i just wanted a little better service.

And now, i'm gonna get it. I called today and got to speak with the manager. He was very courteous, as was I when i explained the situation. He said the guy taking care of me was kinda new, and probably didn't check all the places to get wheels. He said they will be able to get one from some place or another, and it should be in Mon. So I'm cool with that.

that would be a good idea, i'm just not ready to drop the $ right now. Plus i just bought brand new 17" tires that wouldn't do me any good with new 18" wheels.

Good news. Bad news

YEP! Quite true....

Good news: They took responsibility for the damage and are going to fix it.

Bad news: The people working at that location on that day were not professional and could do even more serious damage that could end up being unseen and cause a serious accident. That part is not a good sign.
