Trick The Tire Rack?
I've been browsing the wheels and tires at the Tire Rack. I remembered hearing that they won't sell 225/45/17 or 225/40/18 for the CL. I'm considering the 225/45/17. They list almost the same wheels selection for the RSX but the recommended tire sizes are 225/45/17 and 225/40/18. If I get rims and tires from them I'll probably just say they are for an RSX. I got so pissed when ordering tires for my Audi S4. I was trying to get a tire size that was actually optional from the factory in Europe but I had some hucklberry telling me they wouldn't fit! Wheels for the RSX should be the same offset and have the same hub size shouldn't they?

Where is my super sauce?
225 series tires should be no problem whatsoever. They tried to sell me these.
I actually got very minimal hassle from them when I ordered my 235/45-17 (and wheels). The conversation went something like this:
Me: I want these tires in 235/45-17
TireRack: Uh, we don't recommend sizes above 225/45-17 for your car. At TireRack we guarantee fitment. If you mount the 235 series we cannot guarantee fitment. You might rub.
Me: OK. But the 235/45-17 has the same rolling diameter as stock, and I'd like to keep my speedometer and odometer accurate.
TireRack: That may be true, but we cannot guarantee fitment with the 235 series.
Me: I'll take the [non-exsistent] risk.
TireRack: OK.
He completed the order without a problem.
The issue seemed more to be that of TireRack guaranteeing fitment. If you tell them that you'll accept the risk of rubbing, then they'll probably sell you anything.
Of course your method should work too. I'd find out exactly what the offset is for the RSX before you run this rouse...

i too got a call regarding possible fitiment problems with 235/45/18s. i asked him to just proceed with order and mario, the guy who called, just told me to try them on for fit and they were returnable before they're driven on. on the receipt it is noted that the customer is responsible for the non-recommemded fitiment. thus far i haven't had any problems even with comptech springs.

they really don't give a shit. It;s just a company policy. Been through the same. They didn't wanna mount my 235/40/18, so right after i bought them, they called me asking if i was sure.

Larry....Ext: 221...
He will help you out....
Why not just tell them (The tirerack), that one of your relatives is looking for that size of tire and that is it... don't say anything else other than that...

if you get wheels for an rsx, they are 5x114 lug, if you have a first gen, its 4 lug, if you have 2nd gen, sorry to bother you, just wanted to throw that out.
