Transmission acting up. PLEASE READ/HELP

It has only happened a couple of times but 3 days ago it was pretty bad. Driving around 40 mphs coming off the highway and when it went to shift there was a delay and a harsh change into the next gear. I have a 2001 3.2 cl type automatic. It has 84K on it. I bought on it with 13K miles on it. I have never had the tranny fluid changed.

Now I dont know what to do, it has passed the warranty coverage.

I could change the tranny fluid, which could help. But also worried it could make it worse.

My other option I am thinking is to trade it in.

It is a great car and I have always loved it. but I dont want to go threw tranny problems.

Please help

First, regardless if the problem is the tranny or not, you should change the fluid right now.

Second, call Acura and tell them what is happening and explain that you have never had any transmission work done on your car and you never had the Oil Jet installed on your car because the current transmission never failed. Then see what they have to say if you really feel like it is the transmission is crapping out.

Yeah do what he said. I was in the same boat a few months ago. Just call the dealer ask to speak with the service manager. Its actually better if you go to the dealer personally, (its harder to say no to someone to thier face) If they tell you that its out of warrenty, which they prolly will, ask them if thier is any way they could give you a good will tranny. I got mine absolutly free of charge, 8months out of warranty. They won't however do anything untill the car no longer moves or has thrown the ecu code for it. I got a 3year 36k warranty for mine now...

You should change the fluid every 30k miles in these cars w/auto trans.
Acura SHOULD pick up some of the money to fix/change the tranny if not all of it. Be persistant and dont take no for an answer , then after you do get your new tranny change fluid every 30k!!

Make sure to change the fluid before taking it in even if it is a waste of money. If they see that black fluid pour out, you just gave them a reason to blame it on you. Even though you not changing the fluid is what made it broke.

But just don't give them any ammo to use against you.

I was thinking to change it before so they cant use that as the sole reason. However will this prevent them from checking the tranmission in anyway? Would they see something when they drain it that could be important?

I have a feeling that it is so spordiac that when I bring it there it will not perform the problem.

then what? they tell me they check it and it is ok?

No, they might see some metal shavings in the fluid which can be helpful but I don't think they would change the tranny based on these findings only.

Like mentioned, the car would need to be throwing codes or be more severe than just some metal shavings.

yeah your best bet is to take it in to the dealer. I just took mine in and they've been very helpful. The dealer wants to help you on this.

Trans fluid change calls for 3.1 qt but the full capacity is 7.6 qt. If you do a change it will make the fluid look better but be sure to clean the shavings off magnet in the drain plug.

I researched these cars pretty thoroughly so knowing their history, if I had purchased one with an auto I would have done a complete trans flush by removing a line and pumping most of it out.
