IS this a tranny problem? (SIA)

Sorry for making some nervous people a little more nervous with this post about a transmission problem (potentially).

Many times, not 100% of the time, when the car shifts from 1-->2, the RPM drops badly and then comes back up when the car is in second.

It's not like the RPM's "jump" back...they come back as if I just hit the gas.

Basically, the car does this - from a full stop, give the car some gas (not a whole lot) and the RPM's go up to 3000. The tranny then wants to change into second. As it does this, and I don't change the amount of gas I'm giving it, the car's RPM's will drop to 1000 or less and then come back up to where they should be for second gear. You can totally feel the loss of power for that 1-2 second drop in RPM.

My question...is this normal for the car or does this sound like a tranny problem? I really hate the local dealership I deal with and can't be bothered bringing this to them if it's not a problem w/ the car.

I used to think it's because I baby the car sometimes and I'm not giving it enough gas - but that sounds ridiculous.

Thoughts?

Thanks!!!

sounds like your torque converor is just locking in 1st, then unlocking as you shift at low RPM's then it relocks and your revs rise properly...

I wouldn't say it's a problem necessarily...
how many miles do you have?
go get your tranny fluid and filter changed and see how it is...

I'm just about to hit 20K.

I had my tranny fluid changed at 15K. No difference.
