Windshield Wiper/Washer Bulletin
I was driving my car in the rain yesterday and I used my winshield wiper fluid to clean my window and there was a film all over my windshield that kept smearing, even with glass cleaner and a towel. I took it to the dealer and I was told there is a service bulletin to replace the lines for the windshield cleaner/sprayer.

yes there is a SB. I had it completed on my car. They replaced the fluid, hoses and wiper blades. The failure mechanism is the fluid reacts with the rubber hoses (melts). This only happens on some cars. Do a search on this board for more info.

Just make sure that they DO replace the HOSES -- that is the MAJOR problem !!! The first two times, they replaced my blades and drained the system, but NEVER replaced the hoses, so the problem persisted.
The hoses MUST be replaced !! Everything has been fine since for me.

I've had all of the work done according to the SB (new hoses, flush & re-fill, and new wiper blades), but I still get a smeary mess when I run the wipers in the rain. Other than cleaning the windshield with amonia, any suggestions on how to get my blades to work properly? Or, as some of the forum members write, are the Acura blades simply crap and should be replaced with aftermarket blades?

Do this trick. Get a black magic marker and make a mark on the wiper hoses in some spot that can't readily be seen by the tech. That way when you get your car back you can tell if they did anything.

Believe it or not, they actually did replace the hoses. When I picked up my ride, I got the old hoses (yellowish - clear) back and compared them to the new hoses, which were a different color (dark tint).

gto2050, I'm using the different generic windshield fluid premixed solutions (non-Acura) that you can find in Trash Auto or any food or drug store. Are you recommending using Rain-X products instead of those fluids or as additives?

I use Rain-X also and the munge would still appear. I took it to Park and they did the repair per the service bulletin. BUT make sure you still have the OEM blades because without them the new blade inserts (they only replace the insert) will not fit. I have the Bosche and the inserts will not fit. The dealership gave me the inserts but since I pitched the OEM blades long ago I'm using the Bosche Micro Excel. Pretty pricey but fine.
