I'm more curious about the tips broken off of the IK-22's. What would cause that? Were you experiencing any pinging prior to the problem?

i would think about changing the coils on the cylinders that had the broken plugs because they were stressed really bad. how long do you think you were running with them? anything over a couple of days it too much. its cheap insurance change them, the coils were run at the max voltage to fire the plugs and they will go bad.

well what happens is that lets say at idle it takes 7K volts to fire the plug, and duing normal dirving about 20k volts, well because the ground electrode was broken off, the ECU need to increase the voltage the coils made so that it could spark the plugs, so what it did is that it increased to voltage to max because the gap was to big, so the coils were making about 55-65K all the time, that puts stress on the coils and it will burn them out, they are not designed to function at the high voltage all the time. what usually happens inside them is that you will get a carbon track between the primary and seconday coil wires and it will not produce anymore voltage or you will get a open in the primary or secondary coils and it will only produce a certain amount of voltage.
