Top-speed limiter?

I've been browsing the forums/FAQ's with the search function, and I've seen several references to the 147mph limit on the CL-S's top speed..... On that note:

I've found a few cases where people have mentioned ECM type upgrades (et all), but nothing real definitive.

Is there a thread/website somewhere I'm missing that has recent info on who/what/where regarding ECM stuff?

Thanks for any info.

TL-S & CL-S tops out at about 150+ & CL-P tops out at about 140-144.

It's not electronically limited but drag & hp limited.

Unlike, BMW & some European cars, they're electronically limited to 130 except for their sport package & M models.

So this, from one of the FAQ's, is incorrect?

What's the top speed of a CL S-Type?
The speed limiter stops acceleration at 147 mph, according to a speedometer test done at AAA
It makes you wonder what the true max speed of the engine is, since people have hit 112 mph in 3rd gear.

I have a 3.2 CL and I had mine at 148, then it wouldn't go no more
I have been over 145 quite a few times too

Excuse me!?!?!

before you go speaking crap as if it's fact, make sure you know what you're talking about...

our CLs and our TLs have an electronic fuel shut off at about 147MPH. It may appear that you are going faster on the speedo, but that's just do to it's inaccuracy.

Soopa and I hit the limiter in my TL-S AT LEAST 10 times going to and from Detroit a while back....so it DEFINITELY exists.

Car and Driver's report said that the top speed on the CL-S was Drag limited, not electronicaly limited. Hmmmm. I've never had mine up to top spped.

take chill pill Astro...

U hitting fuel cut off in top gear at about 147 cause it's to protect U from reving way over redline & blowing the engine ? Was your rev almost redline or at that point when u're at that speed ?

Even w/o the fuel cut off, I don't think our car will do much higher speed w/o hitting deep in redline ...

When I think of electronically controlled top speed, I think of like BMW which can run much higher, but controlled at 130. Our cars can't do much higher than 147-150 ? w/ or w/o fuel cut off.

I'm with Astro on this one. Electronic cut-off at ~147. I believe this is possible in 4th gear, with 5th gear only useful for overdrive. Since many electronic cut-offs are in the 120 to 130 range, C&D may have thought it was drag limited. Perhaps they couldn't get it to 147 because of a strong headwind. Add a few mods to increase your power at the high end, and you're still gonna be cut off at around 147.

Back to the original question, I haven't hearn anything about anyone getting rid of the limit with an ECM upgrade. Probably because there really hasn't been much interest.

You can hit top speed in 4th gear in the automatic without hitting redline. I hit the speed limiter a couple times when I had my 2001 CLS.
