This is the look that I'm trying to go for without having to run out and throw down $300 for '03 tails; I know someone had their nbp '01 tails tinted like this, and sent me pictures a long while ago; are you still around?

I've already talked to Rockblocker, apparently they have tint film that will look pretty much black, but still be functional. It'd just be a little harder to cut because I woudln't really be able to see where the top half starts and the bottom half begins

 

so thats photoshopped right? I like how it looks.

 

Yeah, I forget who did it for me; thanks to whoever did .

They also did a version with all smoked tails, and all blacked tails on the abp. I felt the half red half black looked the best.

 

ill tell ya like i did on HI....do it like that, but a little lighter.

 

. for sure I'm going to have to go with red and black; if I buy the '03 tails I would just keep them white and red =X.

 

if you get the 03's tint those bitches man...it looks good

 

yeah I think you can buy the film to smoke them at c-c-c.net I believe there was a small DIY too if you do a search.

I agree the half and half looks the best. I have seen all smoked and it didn't really look that good.

cccnet is sold out of the tint material, i've tried other window tint but theres always a crease and wrinkles, what other tint can you use?

 

I'm going to order tint from Rockblocker; a lot of the TL guys I know have used their headlights and taillights tint and it looks great in person.

I did it with my friend on his M3 and on another friends Ion. We bought the spray tint at first and it was very light. Then my friend by mistake used black spray paint because it was on the table. He was pissed at first but then we realized that it came out the best. So if you have some balls, try the black spray paint. Just tape off the other parts and mist over the lense until it gets the darkness you want. Just make sure you do it evenly.

 

Or if you don't mind the drive, you can head out here to Simi Valley and get them tinted for $20 at a local tint shop.

 

Sounds pretty appealing; as I'd prefer to have a professional take care of; anymore information? (Not sure how far Granada Hills is from west LA)....

Are you able to vouch for this tint shop?

 

This is by far the best tint shop that I know of, they tinted my car, 3 of my friends' cars and my mom's car.

And since tint is the only thing they do, they know their shit.

 

He said the shop is in Simi Valley and thats approx 35-45 miles from West L.A. It really depends on what part of Simi valley it's in.

I found a place in my town that will tint my tails for me. i have the 03's and im going to go with light tint. what do you guys think? tinting the bottom half black and leaving the top clear or tinting the top half so its like blue CL at the top of the page?
I think getting rid of the clear in the back looses the classiness of the car

 

I like black/smoked red with clear tops. It looks really good; I know a lot of the TL guys run that look. Look up LacViet's car.

 

yeah word! I saw Rondy's car in person when he had those tailights but someone hit him in a parking lot and he put back on the 01 tails. its good stuff. i would want a hint of red behind the smoke instead of pure blackness thats why im gonna go with the lighter tint...

 

i think the 03 tails would look much better with the bottom part tinted lightly. But i dont have $300 laying around to blow

 

the 03 tails are clean w/o any tint, they should be left alone

used oracal series 8300 transparent vinyl on em.

 

that looks good on a black CL. It looks like 20% to me..... im out to look for 35% for my SSM if i decide to do it.

 

That looks pretty good, but would look better if you had both pipes on

 

I got my '03's after a grociery store employee rammed a shopping cart into my taillight. I wanted to buy them anyway.

 

lol. So did the grociery store pay for them? Or did you have to pay out of your own pocket ? Good thing you saw him do it or im just he would of just walked away like nothing happend. But back on topic can cops pull you over for having your tailights tinted ?

 

i paid, i didnt want to deal with the drama.....depends how dark you have them on whether cops will care or not. Just get the rockblocker/tint film so if they do get you for it you can take it off. IMO it looks a whole lot better than that spray shit to.

 

Agreed; spray stuff makes you lose the glossy look.

 

that and you risk ruining the casing

 

On my old car i took apart the tailights and sprayed the inside. It turned out ok, still had that glossy look to it.

 

didn't realize that.

I wouldn't go so far as to take apart my headlights to get the look.

not worth the risk in my opinion.

also cause I suck so much @ this kind of stuff I might as well work with my feet instead of my hands.

 

still think 03's look better untinted

search for his pics (shinybluecls). He just recently had a really good photoshoot with his friends' jetta. His pictures are always really well done.
