Took my car in for the 30k maintenance...

i took my car in for the 30k check up. it cost me $550. i turned my radio off before i handed them my car. when i got it back, the radio was full blast and my seats were reclined. i always feel like the technicians joyride my car.
do they test drive the car when u bring it in for services?
plus, a 300 lb guy pulled my car up. i only weighed 150.

Not 100% sure, but i believe the 30k maintenance check includes a test drive to see if there are any other problems that can be diagnosed.

WOW…You got raped.

I just had the 30K service done last week and even with getting rear brake pads installed, my total was just over 400 bucks.
I think the 30K service was like 250 and the brakes were about 100.

I got quoted $500 for the 30k service from 2 dealerships up here...

$500 for changing the air filter, cabin filter, and oil filter seems a bit much to me... Sure they do some other stuff (checks, rotate tires, replace wiper blades), but most dealerships make alot of money on service now.

Those assholes shouldnt have the radio up anyways, they should have it off so they can hear all the god damn rattles that need to be fixed.

Good one, zoltanh!
I would have definitely complained to the service manager, (and have) since this has happened to me more than once. When I got in my Legend once the radio was on a station I never listen to and came on so loud that the speakers were rattling.

For the so priced 'professionalism' you pay for at a dealer it is especially unacceptable to have their workers 'use' or abuse your car or radio, not to mention the ding they gave me at one visit. I don't trust the dealers to take care of our cars as well as we the owners do. Complaining or at least alerting the service manager of dis-satisfaction seems to help. I only use them for warranty work and lately, $10 oil changes. THey are extremely overpriced IMO for anything else.

EVerytime i take my car there my radio ends up on some spanish AM station and since everyone that works there is mexican you dont have to be sherlock holmes to figure out they were listening to it.

Now you have me scared because I am at 29,000 miles and I have to take it in for the 30k service. Havent asked about price though, hopefully i dont get raped that bad.

thats why you make friends with one of the service guys. Build up trust, only let him and the mechanic drive it and you wont have any probs.

My service tech knows him and the mechanic are the only ones to drive my car. the service tech told me, if anything is wrong with my screen, sub, or car in general, he will hold himself liable. Keep those punk porters away from my ish.

How do you go about "making friends" with the service people? I usually go there, give them my keys, sign a paper, drive away in loaner TL. I dont hang out at the dealership and chat it up with the workers nor do i want to.

well if you dont want to then its not gonna happen. I dont hang out there either. I just know the parts and service manager really well, so sometimes i stop in to talk to them.

It all basically started with me when i first bought my double din indash tv and i had a about 15 acura workers surrounding my car like it was a lambo or something. Then from there, i just kept in contact with some of them. Pick out the better service person and stick with him/her.

Everytime i go into service, they all know which service tech im waiting for.

yeah the labor is real expensive, plus if they do an alignment, that is like 80 bucks right there.

Dealers are good for 4 things, buying, selling, warranty work, & parts. There's no reason anyone should go to a dealer for anything else. "services" are a waste of your $$.

I would call the service manager & complain.

I talk to the techs, the advisors and the service manager when I go in for service or inspection. They know I'm a car nut and they like talking about cars, too. The head tech has an NSX so I always say "how's your NSX?" He loves to go on and on about it.

They also know if anything isn't perfect, I'm calling them on it. I've been dealing with the same people for 10 years. I paid the extra money to have them do my springs and I'm happy I did. They did a perfect job and I got my car back in perfect shape. My

OUCH!!! $550? it is $250 at my dealership.

i think that 30K service is a money making scam...they really dont do anything significant:

30,000 mi/48,000 km/2 yrs Scheduled Maintenance

Replace engine oil and filter.

Inspect front and rear brakes.

Rotate tires (follow pattern on page 248 of your owner's manual).

Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.

Inspect suspension components.

Inspect driveshaft boots.

Replace air cleaner element. (Type-S)

Check parking brake adjustment.

Lubricate all hinges, locks and latches with multipurpose grease.

Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS).

Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids, and check for leaks.

Inspect cooling system hoses and connections.

Inspect exhaust system#.

Inspect fuel lines and connections#.

Check all lights.

Inspect the underbody.

I would never bring in my car for those so call 30k maintance or the 50k ones...Basically, a oil change and few other things... Nothing too important. The 500 that their charging, I would do an upgrade on some mod before I handed over 5 bills for them to inspect.. I guess it boils down to how much you know about cars so you dont have to pay labor on things like that. Im sure you can do most of the maintance work yourself for not even 25% of what acura is charging.

One of my pops good buddies works for an Acura dealership. He just did my 52000 check up for $200. I drop it off to him in the morning, he drives it to work and works on it throughout the day, then drops it off after his shift.

I'm with Matt, the dealership will NEVER see my car unless it needs warranty work. Everything that needs to be done that is regular maintenance can be done yourself or by a local garage. Find a reputable garage that is small & knowlegable, and let the OWNER know how anal you are about your ride. Mine NEVER seen a stealership for a service, fuck them. They already made enough off of Honda for the $300 pad/rotor job @ 15k.

this pad/rotor thing made me realize how terrible the brakes really are. i had to get new pads and had rotors resurfaced at 25K ($400)!!! is it me, or does that sound bad? on all of my other cars, the brakes usually last about 50K!

i could have done this brake job for about 1/2 the cost that i paid elsewhere, but my baby was still pretty new so i decided to let acura do that...

cant blame service when you brought it in. For 400, i wouldve bought Rotora's and other type of pads.

i'm not blaming service...i decided to 'overpay' just because i didnt want a general mechanic working on my car for the FIRST major service i had done. plus the dealership did some other minor stuff while i was there...and detailed the hell out of it

dont you need to do major changes when switching the brake system?
(calipers, rotors, pads, lines, etc...)

i thought the rotora/bbk upgrade would be very expensive! how much is the whole conversion???

Can some1 put up a link where they sell the rotor/bbk upgrade?
Also can you just add the big rotor and not calipers with out any mods? Im getting 20's put on and these rotors are going to look extra small with rims that size and didnt want to drop a G on brakes when they work fine. Sry never taken my car appart yet cause the warantee is still good so i have acura deal with it for free..
