Tire prices - Sears vs. Tire Rack
I'm thinking about trying the Sumitomo HTR+ for a replacement. The Tire Rack has them for $88/tire while Sears has them for $140/tire. That's about a $200 difference for 4 tires, even after shipping! Do you think Sears will price match?

Don’t you have any NTB stores near you? National Tire & Battery.
They are owned by SEARS and do Internet PRICE MATCHING.
That’s where I bought my Falken’s last year.

They price matched my sumitomo+; I reread their policy recently and I think it's changed. Now they will only meet "local" retailer's on-line prices. But I would go down there with the tirerack invoice and ask them anyways. Most they can do is say no.

the HTR+ are the best value so far i've heard. They are cheap and performs pretty damn good.
I went into Sears in Mid-January with a print out from tirerack that said the 215/50/17 HTR+ were $88. They literally laughed at me and told me to buy from tirerack and never come back again. I wanted punch the focker for being a dick.

So, without looking at my manual which is in my car, the size of our stock tires is 215/50/17? ... I should expect to pay between 400-500 including 'installation' (not sure the word to use) ...?

I've run into this time after time with sears. A few years ago I was buying a dishwasher. Sears claimed to have the model I was interested in.. However in the Sears version, the height of the top rack was not adjustable (as in department stores, appliance stores etc). Manufactures change their products slightly for sears so sears can buy them wholesale for a bit less.

Yes 215/50/17 is the size for the stock tires. It's also written on the side of your tire wall.
My only gripe about this tire in that specific size is that the rotations/mile is lower than the stock michelins. What does this mean...basically every mile you drive on your stock michelins you will drive 1.05 miles on the Sumitomos. Doesn't sound like a big difference but if you drive 10,000 real miles, in effect your odometer would read 10,500. These are just estimated numbers. Go to tirerack.com for more info and tire rotation/mile.
If I were to do this again, I would get the 235/45/17 which has a closer rotation ratio to the stock setup.

Discount Tire matched TireRack's price for the Sumitomos. They tried to sell me a tire replacement policy for an extra $16 per tire but I declined.
Out the door price $470.

It's about 1.2% difference. 50,000 actual. It would be about 50,600 if you had the sumitomos when you bought the car. Well worth the loss of warranty for the quality of the tire IMHO. Also there are no difference in the Tirerack sumitomos and Sears Sumitomos. They would have a different designation if that were the case. Sears does have some name brands that are exclusive to Sears.

alright you fockers...I'm at work and the numbers above were just guesstimates. here are the real numbers from tirerack.com:
For 215/50/17:
Sumitomos HTR+ = 829 revs/mile
Michelin MXM4 = 819 revs/mile
there is a 0.0122% difference. So...for every 10000 miles traveled on the Michelins the same car with Sumitomos would accumulate 10122 (apprx) miles. There are a bunch of other fucking variables (eg: tread wear differences, etc) but holding everything else constant, it still shows a significant variance.
You fockers happy now?...next time prove me wrong and do your own damn math!
FYI: 235/45/17 Sumitomo HTR+ = 823 revs/mile
