I'm interested in these too. After trying to tint my tails with crappy tint to no avail, I'm looking into something I bit more easy to do.

How illegal are they? would you get pulled over a lot you think?
I want the smoke and just the top half of the light, so I think it wouldnt be too bad.

also if you were in an accident do you think these could be a problem? that they might site these as a reason and use for evidence.

Again I am using smoke so it shouldnt be that bad I would think

Thats the company I ordered mine from. I paid a tailight tint installer to put them on for me cause they are pretty hard to put on cause of the curve.

i've had a better experience with this seller's tint. higher quality and easier to put on because it was stickier and thicker. i highly recommend ilovemymotor.

i opted out to a cheaper seller the 2nd time i bought it after i got a tail light ticket, but the quality was noticeably different, it's not the seller that you posted the link to. dont remember which seller that was. good luck

shit u can see the thickness on the pic of that film... that looks mighty thick...

I'd go with the light tint IF i were to purchase them. completely black headlights make our car lose its classy appearance IMHO.

If the lights were merely less bright (RED) then I would be incline to try it out. But I just am so content with the stockies, I see no reason to fiddle with them.

BUT that's just me

IMO any tint that is like a vinyl is the most difficult thing to put on your tails use VHT night shade looks great and u can go as light or as dark as you want and its like $7

And it is really easy to put on

That stuff is crazy durable, you cant really tell but I screwed up on mine(left is much darker than the right) and you can only tell when the bulbs are on, trying to take it off and redo it is not going to happen. If you want it to come off the only stuff that will take it off will also melt the plastic

haha ya there is and you don't need to tell me its super ricey because I know it is, I put it on when I first got it because a friend told me it was cool I don't listen to what he thinks is cool anymore haha. I'm going to take it off with all the other badges as soon as it gets warm here again.

the coupe badge does look out of place. mainly because of the font. if you didn't have 3.2 badge it might look a bit better....but back on topic...

the vinyl is really easy to install? I'm not sure why everyone is having trouble with it, i did mine in maybe 5-10 minutes, including cutting out the top turn signal portion. You just gotta be patient. plus it's as easy as peeling it off when you're tired of it or something, instead of having to remove paint from your taillights.

It was hard for me, probably cause I have no experience and was only using water as opposed to water/soap mix.

Still took the experienced installer a good 20 min to do both sides.

it would be easier with the top section off for sure.
putting the whole thing on does take a little skill. Also probally a little heat to make it contour correctly. I done a few differnt vinyl installs. With out some heat its next to impossible to get to look right because our lights are so rounded.

Thats what I have on mine. It is a little tricky to work with. But if your patient and take your time its not impossible. I had a heat gun to help keep the vinyl pliable. Just have to be careful not to melt it. I couldn't be happier with how mine turned out!

The second pic it looks a little rough around the edges, but i cleaned that up with a razor. I've washed the car several times and this stuff is durable! We'll see how it holds up to a chicago winter!

cutting it on the car you could make it look perfect but,you will have a permament scribe line in your lamp.
If you have a problem with the vinyl afterwards and have to remove it will look like crap.
Then if you try to recover with new vinyl you wont get the water out ,and it will look like crap.
You might as well say if its cut on the car your lamps will aventually look bad.
I know my spelling sucks

I don't know how to use the spelling editor here. I have tried before and can't work it when it goes into editor mode.

Yeah I cut it once it was on the light. I actually practiced cutting on the extra tint i had from the top half of the light. Once I had to cut the extra off and the top half of the film off i was pro! No cuts in the lens or anything! Just need a sharp blade.

Heat gun is a must for installing tint vinyl on tail lights, made mine so much easier, 5 years later still going strong

Use brighter bulbs or LED's This is why blacking them completely out is a problem, mine you can stil see the lights clear as day with stock bulbs, all depends on how dark you make it, and how bright the lights behind are

I was worried about that as well. But even during the day just the running lights on are easy to see. Brake lights for sure aren't a problem. Plus I have the spoiler brake light, and the window light. Thats a lot of red to miss!

I think only if they are too dark to be able to see the running lights. Don't quote me though.

tinted tails are illegal. its up to the cop if they want to pull you over for it. its kinda like running no front plate in a state that requires it or having front tint when its illegal.

Bringin' This Thread Back To Life!

I have 20% tinted windows and am considering tinting my tail lights the same 20% percent to match. However, I do not want to severely hinder the light output. Thus, I would replace the regular bulbs with LEDs (either LED towers or spider LEDs) to help accommodate the light output. I have a few questions though:

1) What is the overall consensus on what is the best way to tint tail lights? Do I buy pre-cut film and bring it to a shop to have them professional installed [http://tiny.cc/q16ny]? Or do I add a little dash of black paint mixed with clear coat and apply the mix with a gun, adding little dashes of black paint while coating them until they are the shade I want them. I am just concerned that if the cops harass me too much, I would have to buy new tails if I painted them. Whereas if I used the film, I could just peel it off.
2) Has anyone tinted their tail lights 20%, or painted them of equal darkness? If so, I would appreciate it if you would post some pictures. Is 20% too dark? I am just worried that if I don't tint the tails 20%, it is going to look stupid having two different tint levels.
3) Can I successfully install LEDs in our incandescent light-bulb setup housing, since the set-up is meant to refract light outwards. I am concerned how the LEDs will refract off the mirrored-housing and if it will look dull. This was discussed in the following thread, towards the bottom of it: http://tiny.cc/9a8x0. In that thread, they posted this detailed link that better explains this: http://tiny.cc/0psn0.
4) What is the consensus on LED towers vs. spider LEDs [http://tiny.cc/tqqs0]? I am leaning towards the 60 High Powered Wide Angle SMT LED Tower because I feel it will provide me with the best light output.
5) Also, in order to help accommodate the light output, I was considering adding a Flashing Brake Light LED Sequencer Control Module (listed towards the middle of the page) [http://tiny.cc/tqqs0]. The braker control module makes LED brake/reverse lights strobe brightly for a few seconds, then stay steady on. I have noticed that ambulances' tail lights do this. What are peoples' thought/opinions on this idea?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I used a film, not precut. Bulk sheet is easier to work with but I had a tint installer do it for me. I wouldnt go to dark, just smoked not blacked out.
Its probably illegal in your area and you dont want cops hassling you. plus an insurance company might find that its your fault if you get rear ended.

VHT nightshades is a permanent thing, I did it on my car.
Its cool because you can pick out exactly how you want it to look and its a lot easier to get the lines right but once that shit is on its on for good.

Anything that would take it off melts the plastic
