20% is perfect. I have a black/black CLS with 20% and it looks great. any darker and it'd be hard to see outside at night. And I've never had a problem with cops because of it.

I have 20% just cause the car came with it. I'd rather have 15%.

I had 20% on my Accord and loved it, but made the mistake of going with 35% all around on my CLS and am regretting it now.

Why would you say 35% was a mistake? Is it too light on a blk/blk CLS?

In my opinion, you might as well not even tint a black car if you're just going to do 35%. I thnk it's a waste. It's WAY too light.

I would go 15%-20% all around. that is the perfect balance of darkness and and the ability to see out at all hours. I have darker on my CLS but you have to pay a lot of attention when driving at night. With the dark int it will look dark too.

If you do live in Mobile, call my customer Skip at Ace Auto Tinting. Tell him, Ricky(me) sent you there. He is a very good friend and customer of mine. I sell him all his film. I can give you his numbers if you like.

depends on the laws too
i think 15-20% around is perfect. 35% maybe if you're scared about tickets and stuff.

but i know people that have 2-3 layers of 5% which is just ridiculous.

My 20% for reference:

Come to think of it the ex g/f's was Anthracite w/35%. She bought the car that way.

Too light IMHO.

i have 5% on rear and 5% windshield banner and 30% on sides

looks perfect for me, its not too dark and not too light bc the darker in the rear and front create the appearance of darker on the sides.

love it.

i know how to drive just fine, NOOB. but i bet you won't post the damage on here when you're backing, trying to maneuver in near pitch black.

if you dont want cop trouble and you want a nice dark clean look then definately go with 20%. when you do two shades of tint it just doesnt look clean. when you have the same shade all around then its perfect. And if your wondering, people cant see you at night with 20% unless they are real close and in the day time its hard to see too. here is mine with 20

i dont agree, i'm in the middle of a rain storm right now and just had the car tinted about a week ago, but ill get pictures and post. as long as you tint one side an entire %, i wouldnt do the sides 2 different tints, but the rear window darker than the sides is fine, it looks clean as hell. it's stealthy too. i really wanted to avoid cops and went 30% but it wasnt dark enough for me, so i retinted the rear to 5% and now its perfect and i wont get in trouble. how can you say that cops will leave you alone with 20% if you cant see in until real close? that doesnt make sense.

my experience has been, cops are only attracted to tinted out cars of certain types. i had a mitsu lancer and my gf had integra with 20% all around on both cars we got pulled over all the time. now i have an 01 cl and she has a 93 sc400, i have 5 on rear and banner, 30 on sides, she has 5 on rear and banner and 20 on sides. we aren't bothered.

I sort of agree with this statement. I never get bothered, or at least haven't yet... :knocksonwood:

I think the cops associate my car with a luxury car and don't really bother with me.

you said they stopped you cuz you were driving a lancer, well ive never been stopped and i have a black coupe with black rims with black interior with black tint with flashy blue led's and im brown. i really think as long as they can tell whether your a male or female through the tint then your fine, and you could do that with 20%. and i just think when you tint the whole car one even percentage, it cleans the appearance up and gives a more luxury look. thats just me

black rims are asking for trouble. IMHO. Don't forget im in NY, the most overpaid cops in the country, and trust me, they love to bust balls. i've had plenty of experience with them and i've had multiple cars and i'm white. a lot of it depends on the car.

i know people with tinted out SUVs and altimas and they never have problems. ::shrugs::

I have 15% sides, 5% rear window, and 50% windshield. It looks great and no problems from cops so far. You can always pull back the sunshade for the moonroof during the day to let more light in if you're worried about cops.

I have pics in my sig

Whattup y'all!! Kick ass site....Ive been browsing for awhile & have read a lot of good information. Never chimed in because my car is stock & I'm still learning, but I did tint my windows so here's my . I have 20% on all windows on my SSM CLS except for the windshield which is 35%. I have to admit, this is the best tint % that Ive ever had on a car (Had 5% on my civic, but it was just too dark). I am still able to see out @ night while maintaining that privacy factor. I would post pics, but I dont have any yet (besides its stock). Later

Next tint thread should be a poll.

no NYC (NYPD) is grossly underpaid... Nassua / Suffolk (Long Island where I am) are making 80s easily to start with great government pensions.

back on topic.. good choice on 20. thats the best way to go for undecided. i've always wanted to do windshield but couldn't find anywhere reputable to do the whole thing so i just got the banner.
