Time to redline in each gear for the 6-speed

Okay,

The 03 6-speed has agressive gearing,

What about time to redline for each in WOT 1/4 dash race...
0-40 in First Gear?
40-65 in Second Gear?
65-90 in Third Gear?
90-100 in Fourth....

I guess need to shift to 2nd just after a mere 2-3sec
and 3 more sec and you need to be in 3rd....

I would say too much involvment from the driver...

You also need to add in the time it takes to shift since no acceleration is occuring once out of gear.

Say the average person will take 0.5 seconds to make a shift (excluding myself who tends to shift without lifting ), there is now 1.5 seconds added to the total time.

That's why they make automatics.

You can't have a powerful car, a manual and good gearing without having to shift fast. Going through the gears fast is a good thing if you are concerned about acceleration.

My car:

1-2 shift (37 mph) ~ 2.0 sec
2-3 shift (62 mph) ~ 2.5 sec

It's not too fast to shift if you know what you are doing. The "extra" 1.5 seconds should be more than made up by the overall shorter gearing and less mechanical drag with the manual tranny.

wait...this doesn't make sense...if we use these numbers, by the time u cross the 1/4 marker, u'll b in 4th gear...and where r your RPM's gonna b?? when i race, by the time i reach the 1/4, im right in the sweet spot in 3rd...what am i missing here???????

if the timing balances out, then what's the point of racing with a manual??? how bout even driving the manual???

Or have enough torque through the band to allow you to use taller gearing, aka, Z06 and the Viper run through 60 MPH in 1st gear.

But they'd be faster accelerating if they had shorter gearing.

Actually, in their current set up they are traction limited. Shortening the gears will only increase their ability to sit-n-spin. There becomes a point where gearing get's too short for a vehicle and it just has too much power to handle it.

I would suspect that noticeably shorter gearing in either would results in worse times to 60 and possibly through the 1320.

I figured you'd mention traction, and it is a good point.

However, the CL-S doesn't have the power to be traction limited, so you need short gearing in it. My point was that you can't have your cake and eat it too with the CL-S.

So very true... The CL-S may be traction limited in a manual for the first 20MPH but after that it will need all the gearing it can, and if you baby the shifts, forget about decent times.
