At idle, my engine is ticking a little bit. Does this mean my valves need adjusted? I'm at 23K. I'll probably wait til the 30K service. Are there any other causes of this?

 

At your next oil change, have them flush the engine. You can also swithc to synthetic oil at this time if you haven't already done so. I had this problem on my old Ford Probe and after I flushed the engine the ticking wnet away...

 

Flush the engine??????? it would be better to have the dealership locate and correct the noise if in fact the noise is determined to be a problem.Jens

That's very similar to my problem, if not identical.

I just have to get it down to the dealer tomorrow and see if I can bother a tech for a minute to come listen to it.

well my shit is more like a "clatter" than a tick or a ping specifically. like something's loose (like a valve or lifter or a belt).

What he was probably referring to were the quart bottles of solvent (e.g. Motor Flush) that you run through the engine for 5 minutes just before changing the oil. As you know, on higher mileage cars (which Gold's is not), sometimes oil sludge builds up in the valve-train area causing "sticky" valves or lifters, which could result in the ticking noise. The "flush" products attempt to break those residues loose.

Gold, do you always use the same type of oil at your oil changes? If so, personally I'd try switching brands, especially to a synthetic (if you're not using it already) since they tend to keep the insides of the engines cleaner. And as autophile1 mentioned, I would try a quart of Motor Flush right before the next oil change also (if you change it yourself).

 

I switched to the ever so popular Mobil 1 synthetic at 7500 miles. First time I put it in I used the OEM filter. Changed the synthetic at 15k, thought it looked too dirty and changed it again at 20k. This time I used the Mobil 1 filter. Was planning on changing it every 5k, but the oil looks much better after 3k than it did the last time. We'll see...

 

i bet it's just your injectors...they have the tendency to tick

 

All I know is my car isn't quiet like every other Honda/Acura car is, when it's idling.


Sounds like a beat up piece of garbage not a luxury car. It's embarassing.

Unfortuanately my best advice to you is to have the dealer take a look.I would advise you to demonstrate the noise so that both you and your dealer are on the same page.As for engine flushing....not me not in my car not ever no way no how ......nuff said?Jens

 

My car is too noisy as fuck at idle from outside the car... but its not bad inside, only the CAI... but thats my fault! lol

But from outside... I have a loud ass ticking that sounds like its coming from rear wheel well. I know a bunch of people have said they had this too... maybe its same as you guys? Its really loud when pulling into a garage.

 

Most likely it is your injectors.
I had that noise in my accord and the dealer told me that it was the injectors ticking.
Bothered me tho, made my car sound like an old one

 

Ditto. Same game plan at the same milage and how filthy the Mobil 1 looks compared to the original oil. I mean shouldn't the breakin look dirtier than the Mobil 1? Staying with stock oil filters. Also on next service I'm going back to the "organic juice." Thats filthy synthetic looks bad and for my driving area and habits I don't think that the synthetics are any benefit?
