Throttle body
When i was taking off my intake i noticed that my throttle body flap was all the way open. Is this normal with the type S? If so whats the purpose?
There are 2 butterfly valves....as part of the dual stage intake. The first one you see is open and the other is closed when the car is off and the accelerator is not pushed to the floor. Put the pedal to the metal and the second one will open.
I cleaned my intake a few weeks ago at 75K miles and the first one you see wasn't really dirty at all and the second one was just a little dirty. Cleaning it was easy. Car runs like new again!

the first butterfly valve you see in the open position is controlled by the vsa system. it stays open until vsa intervenes and shuts it to reduce engine power.
about the 2-stage intake: the valve controlling that is under that metal cover on top of the intake manifold. it's not visible until that cover is removed.

Thanks for the info. I was a little worried because i'm not used to seeing the valve open on cars, so it was a shock to see the valve open on the type s. So do all cars with VSA have the same set-up?
I used to clean the throttle body with wd40.
Any tips on better solution to use to clean the throttle body with?
Any tips how to clean past the second throttle body valve?
Any tips that work well when cleaning the throttle body?
Thank you

Cleaning the throttle body
I've got a 6spd with nav with 79k miles and the accelerator is sticky. Car actually stalls and I was wondering if that has anything to do with throttle body being dirty.
Also, does anyone have a nice write up with some possible pics on how to clean it? It seems easy enough but I want to expend 0 effort on it. Thanks!

I'd like to also know what the proper technique is when cleaning these parts because I need to perform it on mine as well.

Not on a honda but other cars ive actually had the little rubber grommet from the throttle cable turn to "gum" and stick the throttle open. just cleaned the injectors too, so im guessing some overspray got onto it and eventually disolved it.
Just be careful with the carb/ throttle body cleaner its meen stuff.
