you guys with an aftermarket head unit use the pac swi-x steering wheel control interface kit to use your oem steering wheel controls with an aftermarket deck i.e. alpine cda-9856?

I looked into a steering wheel interface, but my remote for my h/u does so much more so decided not to waste money.

The pac unit lags a little. I didn't like it and don't use it.

Apparently there are two versions though...one is supposedly better than the other and "closer" to an OEM function.

I'm sure you'd get the feedback you desire over in the OFF TOPIC section under Audio & Video.

use the direct.

SWI-PS for Pioneer and Sony for head units that have wired remote input
SWI-ALP for Alpine and Kenwood units that have wired remote input.

These will work more consistantly than SWI-X
no infrared problems such as sun in the way or drilling spot or not in line of sight.

Thanks for posting that up. At the time I didn't have my folder with the info in it. The SWI-ALP is the one I've heard that functions like OEM. Give it a try. I plan to do this myself since I'm spoiled with the wheel controls now.

I have the Alpine unit and it works great. I kept the same buttons for volume control and used the mode button for mute. With the Alpine unit you have those buttons do what you want.

with these steering wheel interfaces you can make those buttons you can reprogam them to do any type of head unit controls such as forward and backtrack or change source.
Its up to how you program it.
