This probably has been touched on before, as it is surely nothing ground breaking and this has been done before on tons of cars but I'll post anyways.
First, remove the stock resonator from the bottom of the stock intake. Then take dryer hose or similar material (those plastic gutters would work too). Route the dryer hose or gutter from the bottom of the stock intake to the lower portion of the grille behind the bumper. Top it off by replacing the stock air filter with a high-flow filter from Comptech or K&N (I believe they make one). It will sound nearly as loud as the AEM or Injen CAIs at WOT in the VTEC range and should pick up similar horsepower. This all can be done in about 30 minutes and for $50.
I had been driving around without the resonator for 2 weeks while I was waiting on my IceBox to come in. The stock intake without the resonator is MUCH louder than the IceBox at WOT.
Seems like there's a lot of new people around here who are on a budget. This will work great.
Kinda
Kinda
But who cares.

nobody can even see that part, but it does make the intake of air lower to the ground if you do not use the anything.

Interesting Idea Steve.
What I really thought was interesting was Ruf87's Icebox setup. He cut a hole in the splashguard and used a dryer hose type connector to come out of the hole. He uses this or tracking his TLS, and when not in use, he has it plugged with a tennis ball.
BTW I remember NBP CLS that had that same sig

I had the resonator out & K&N filter in for a month now. I really don't think anything is louder.
I had an ice box on the old car.
For gains? Don't know. It's still too hot & humid in South FL to tell. We don't get cool air often.

I've had this done on my car for 4 years now. I used 3" flex porting from JL and used a port horn on the end. I routed this out the bottom of the car for colder air and ram air. When the 03's came out I bought the inserts and replaced the running lights. Then I cut the back off the insert and made a fiber glass adapter to go from the insert to the tube. A even cleaner look and better ram air effect. This setup really makes the engine have a mean growl to it.
My question is this:
With the resonator out, is there any chance of water coming up through the splash gaurd?
There are little holes and gaps everywhere down there for water to get in. Just curious.

What do you think of being ultra ghetto and hacking up the stock resonator so that it's no longer a closed "box" and so that it will allow air to be scooped in from the front/bottom? You could seal off that top portion where the stock hot air inlet is and only let air come in from underneath.
It probably wouldn't be too hard to pick up a cheap stock resonator box from someone here on the board and experiment with it, or use your own. Maybe I'll give it a try.. hah
Wonder how it would sound...
