Red face Thermoblok Spacers Installed.....is this normal?

Couple of days ago I just installed my Thermoblok spacers...everything is normal, no codes, no rough idle, no check engine light. The Car definitely pulls nice and the Intake Manifold.....I can now rest my hand on it .....the only thing I've noticed that everytime I hit the gas hard....I hear a whisle coming out of my hood. Is this normal? I mean everything is fine and the car runs great . Possible air leak? I checked everything and seems good to me. I followed one of the members (forgot who it was...but thank you ) DIY link : http://photos.phytte.com/view_album....okInstallation
Call me stupid but this is my first time installing something decent on my car

I'm equipped with a AEM CAI. Wanted to check the spacers out before supercharging the car

now my car sounds like that JDM C-west S2000 that once been driven by Orido Manabu (Advan Driver/Drifter) on best motoring. everytime that car hits the gas at a certain high rpm it whisle's......sounds pretty cool though ...or maybe its the AEM CAI thats making the sound instead of the INJEN intakes correct me if I'm wrong....

Yep, I got the same thing. Torqued everything appropriately too. Maybe it's the really rough edges of the thermoblok spacers causing air resistance which causes that whistling noise. I would assume that most people have it but just cannot hear it since they have to be next to a wall while revving or inside a parking garage. That's the only time I can hear it clearly.

That's exactly what's causing it. Nothing to worry bout.

I figured it was the TB spacer and the CAI intake.....not to mention I put my ear right on the TB while my friend was hitting the gas pedal so its not coming from the Manifold spacer......not to mention my ears almost exploded while doing it 5 times....

Awesome... I am glad you fonud the cause. I am guessing the TB is not really doing any good if i am already bypassing the coolant line correct. if that is the case i may take it out.

I went to see this tech. I know from a performance shop and he said everything should be fine and he also mentioned its gotta be the TB spacers and the CAI intake since the thermoblock is doing its job to reduce heat air. I've noticed before when I drove my car without warm up during the winter (just to re-park my car), the CAI intake made a lot of hissing sound....after the car warms up entirely the sound is gone. He also garrantees that when I supercharge my car and the icebox will take place I won't have the whistle noise anymore since the TB spacers and the CAI will be out. Generally, the intake manifold spacer is doing most of the job, from his . as long as the car pulls nice and drives normal

dshearon I think you should be fine with the coolant bypass since you live in Florida with the hot weather . I didn't do the bypass because during fall and spring season it gets pretty cold in my area which it sucks .

I tried your link for the install but it did not work. Are there any other links for the Thermoblock install? I did a search and could not find one.

I used the instructions I got with the spacers. They were fine.

Thanks for the heads up.

How long did it take to install?

Did you have to make any modifications?

It took about 2 to 3 hours. I cleaned out the TB while I had it out. I didn't have to make any modifications.

Just curious but what would happen if I do the coolant bypass and live in a cold winter climate? I rarely drive the car in the cold/snow so would it be ok?

I live in Chicago and have my TB coolant lines by passed. I left them by passed for the winter to see if anything happened. I have driven it several days when the temperature was in the single digits with no problems.

yeah. the instructions didn't recommend doing that in colder regions. for example Chicago, bbrrrr! that's cool that everything is cool and all but, i don't think that bypass is of much benefit. i had mine setup like that and always came to find that the hose was hotter than shit. so i decided to just hook up everything back. unless someone's dyno says otherwise.

That's the point. You DON'T want that hot hose running the coolant through your TB, it just heats up the air in your TB. With no hose hooked up, you have zero heat transfer from the coolant.

the reason i disconnected that is because i could have sworn that the line wasn't as hot as it started to get. so i thought something could've started to screw up and heat the engine more. it was just my nerves. in that case, let me go open my hood and redo that chit. thanks dustin.
