Thermoblok spacers

Are there any DIY's for these? I tried to search & didn't find anything. The Helms manual I have is a bit vague on taking off the intake manifold.

Thanks

its cake...disconnect the IAT sensor harness and all three vacuum lines on the rear of the upper intake also disconnect the "throttle" cable to the plenum valve...take off the 10 or so 10mm chrome bolts ontop of the manifold cover....now remove the remaining 12 mm bolts inside the upper intake....

p.s. you can leave the throttle body on but i would disconnect what ever intake you have . i.e. AEM,Ice Box ect.

i know niteqwill had done a DIY w/pics. it helped me when i did mine. the last i heard him say about it was that a friend had accidently tooken it off a server they share or something like that. then he said he was able to salvage them from some other computer. but i'm not sure if he said they were now available for our use. try hitting him up.
as with any work that you do under the hood, it's much easier doing anything w/the right tools. it took me awhile because of this and my damned back. but it's a relatively easy install (except for those hoses that won't budge). good luck.

The spacers come with a nice set of directions.

Side question... Fuzzy. I thought you said you weren't going to do ANYTHING to this car? lol. I see you have a gigantor mod list, compairative to your old one.

On topic: Do the Thermo's actually give a decent power gain?

i as of yet have not ran my CL on a dyno. but at the time of the install of the spacers (consecutively installed by the Icebox), my butt dyno indicated a good deal of low-end acceleration as well as torque. it felt great. gain or not it's still a good mod as are the Mugen cooling mods to somewhat increase engine longevity by helping to dissipate unwanted energy-absorbing heat soak.
just do it already, Ryan.

Here is the new DIY: http://photos.phytte.com/thumbnails.php?album=2

I included everything but the torque specs... I had them listed in the last DIY that got deleted.

But the pictures should make the install much, much easier.

Thanks NiteQwill

I'm getting them more for the heat reducing aspect. It's 70-80+ almost all year here.

All Mine...
Yeah I know what I said. Getting a fat bonus at work didn't help me keep that word

Can this thermo block spacer be used on a S/C CL-S 6 spd? or Will this affect the behavior of the engine since its supercharged already.

Yes, but you cannot use the TB spacer since it will not allow the elbow to fit back on.

Going to install these Saturday morning. Can someone list the socket & wrench sizes I will need?
It's not listed on NiteQwill's DIY or Outlaw's instructions.

Thanks

I would say go with an 8, 10, 12. I don't think you need a 14, but may need it to be safe. You will also need open-ended wrenchs to take out the studs. I would say 10 and 12 or maybe just some pliers.

This helped me allot, never got a chance to say thanks can't get any clearer than that.
The worse part was removing that cheap green paper gasket off the manifold, thing was stuck on like glue.

I think I just used one open-end wrench and a pair of pliers or vise-grips. But seriously, who is going to have two 10mm open-end wrenches?

Ok they are in. It's wasn't too hard. Took me forever cause I droped a nut INTO the lower intake manifold. I had to find a way to retrieve it After that it was easy.

I don't notice a thing different. I don't feel any gains, & the intake manifold gets just as hot as before. I didn't install the coolant bypass though. I wanted it to look stock for when I had warranty work done.
Also not in the DIY is you have to trim the plastic intake cover to clear the TB wiring. It wasn't much. A razor took care of it.

Are the gains from this supposed to be immediate?

Same thing happened to me, with the nut falling inside, LOL, I was shitting on myself, till I got it out. You don't even have to cut the plastic IM cover, I just slid mine under the plug, although I know it gives that plug some stress, but just did not want to deal with cutting anything.
There is no gains, the point is to maintain the same amount of HP while the car is hot, ie: driving your car in cool weather 24/7 with out the sluggish feel of this vehicle when the weather is too hot while the engine is hot...
Unless im wrong by numbers on a dyno, but I certainly did not feel anything.

if i recall correctly, someone ran a dyno post Thermos and got something like 8 bhp. it's some gain we shouldn't even feel via butt dyno.

Im looking at their dyno and it doesnt seem right. The torque is higher than the hp....and even if it is mislabeled, he's getting maximum torque and hp at 5000rpm....I dunno bout you guys but when i dynod mine with headers, intake, and exhaust....my whp was at 232...and my torque was like 198~....and it almost flat lines from 3500-4500 and then a slight dip until 6800...

I call on their dyno.

The BS dyno has already been disgussed. A member did before and after dynos and came up with a more realistic 4-5 whp increase.
