Is there anyone here that went from 19"s to 18"s (i.e. is the ride better?)???

I was pondering.....Then I thought that I should MAYBE....sell my 19"s, and get some 18"s and leave them on year round. The main question is....no that my stocks are back on....I like the smooth rattle free ride....but I LOVE the looks of my 19"s....sooooooo are 18"s the happy median???? Or does the ride suck on 18"s too

Basically I LOVE the way my car looks and handles, but the ride comfort in town SUCKS.
Maybe my OEM shocks are going or something…I don’t know.
Plus when I took the blingers off I noticed one of my tires had two LARGE bubbles on the inner sidewall.
Probably a ripped cord or two from a pothole hit.
The RIM is fine, but the tire is shot.
They’re nearly bald and need to be replaced in the spring so it’s no big deal, but this still worries me.

btw, each car responds differently to lowering springs, especially those on stock shox....imo, i'd never put aftermarket springs on stock shoxs simply b/c i will have to replace them down the line anyway and will have 2 pay labor twice for the same job
btw, nicky are u still on stock shoxs?

I was thinking of going 235/40 in the summer, but I haven’t found out for sure that they will fit.

I find it hard to believe that going from OEM shocks to “sport tuned” version of anther brand will actually IMPROVE the ride comfort.

i had 18s all summer long and experienced the same rattly feel. i got my 16s on for winter and man i really like the smooth feel. so, yes the rattle feel will still be there even if you go down to 18.

W/ the stock shocks there is very little play w/ aftermarket springs. Aftermarket shocks will allow that play for a more comfortable ride.

I was also considering going with a 215/45/18 to increase my sidewall, but there aren’t many tires available in that size.

you were asking, 235's will work. There are a good amount of people running them. I know the Yoko Paradas are available in 215/45's or maybe it's a 225/45.
If you are interested I have 2 brand new 235/40/18 Nitto 555's I'll let go DIRT F'ING CHEAP!

I am considering getting 555’s, but have heard some bad things about them like excessive noise, wet handling and quick wear.

shawn, aftermarket shox that are deigned to handle the higher spring rates from the aftermarket lowering springs will always ride alot better than the stock shox designed only to handle the lower spring rate on the stock springs
i'd suggest both you and nicky to get some aftermarket shoxs...get the tokico illuminas, they offer 5way adjustability and have a life-time warranty
also due to the lower sidewall and profile of 225(235)/40/18s, more stress will be placed on the suspension itself since there will now be less rubber to absorb the impact...w/a very good aftermarket shock, the shock will have be able to dampen and absorb the bumps even more and should in theory provide a better ride
also, by adding aftermarket springs, u will def wear ur stock shoxs out alot quicker, but combine that w/upgraded 18/19s w/less tire sidewall, the stock shoxs will wear even quicker

if shawn ever put 215/40/18s vs. 225/40/18s, the sidewall will remain the same, but the width of the tire decreases
now if shawn goes w/215/45/18 vs 215/4018s, the sidewalls will be different, w/ the 225/45 having a taller sidewall than the 225/40

I got 225/40/18 Yokohamma parada Spec II's the ride is not bad at all!! I am not going twith 19's, thought about it, but it will cause me too much trouble and money at the end!! 18's do justice with handiling, looks, and ride!!

aww man. i just took my 19's off cause one day as i was crusing down a street i dont usually go through and all of a suden i see this fucking black hole upcomming like a motherfucker. So i try to swerve but, fuck me too late and i go over it. let me tell you the motherfucker felt like a ESPN worlds strongest man out a hammer to my head. I was like then i pulled over and saw that i got lucky and the rim was still in perfect shape.
the next day i took them off, since anyway i am gonna be doing alot of commuting. god 19's are so nice but they make you so anal and give you a fucking headache thinking whats comming next up the road. Cause to think i spent 3,500 for wheels and then end up fucking them up in one afternoon.

18's aren't any different
Look at how many cars ride 19's stock these days. Don't be a pussy :P

wrong, dont get the illumina's, these are performance shocks and will give you crappy ride, even on the lowest setting. if you are complaining about the ride with stock shocks and bigger rims, you would hate my car with tokicos and stock 17's.
however, i hear the konis and teins definately offer softer rides. the teins i think can match stock or go even softer, though i am not sure on that one.

power, u have the illuminas? hmmm thats weird, i've been in a few cars that had them and it seem to ride pretty well
the konis arent a bad choice but arenty they a bit firm even in their lowest setting?
