tech question single v. dual exhaust

How much performance does the CLS loose by having a dual exhaust???? How much more torque could we get with a nice single?

Ya when I was getting my exhausts put on the guy was telling me I should run a single for more power. He said he could do all my piping in mandrel bends and use a universal exhaust.. But I am happy with mine

You know. That might be something I consider. I'd like to know how much of a power increase before i spend the bucks. I love the way mine looks as well but if it were to add like 15ft/lbs of torque i could do without the dual exahusts

This might be something worth comparing some dyno's on..I considered it as well..only problem for me is the dual exhaust holes our cars have, wouldnt look too good from an aesthetic perspective

That's a nice exhaust. Bigger wheels would be sweet

Why would Acura make it dual exhaust when they knew they'd lose power?

BTW when the Supra was in research this was a ? that popped up and obviously they went with a single exhaust because there were no noticable gains w/ dual over single, plus it added weight.

Well you could just have a dummy exhaust sitting there. You know have it installed but gases flowing to it?

Wouldn't it also be cheaper to run a single exhaust setup??? I just can't wait for the day when my mufflers and crap go because of the crappy salty winters that just love to eat away the metal parts underneath my car.

By the way... What does it cost to replace the mufflers on our cars?

Lol then you have no weight savings

Also one would build up carbon and show wear quicker..

Well unless you redesign the back bumper, you need a fake sitting in the other hole or you look silly.

I think a single exhaust would be sweet if it worked well as long as the rear end looked right.

If someone designed a rear skirt or whatever that only had one exhaust "hole" area then getting a single exhaust would be aight.

That's Actually a good question...I dont think anyone has replaced stock for stock...everyone has gone aftermarket on this board (i.e comptech/HKS/Mugen, etc....)

It's ok You still get the benefit of added power. I really don't care to much about the look. I'm pretty anal about keeping the muffler tips looking clean so It's an option.

the bigger the diameter the muffler is ..the more torque u are going to lose at low rpm ..no matter u are driving a manual or auto tranny...so one single or dual exhuast do matter to me..as long as they are not tooooo big to have the visiual effect than its real efficient... i will say mugen muffler is about the right size..u gain a bit of hp (the exhaust current flows more fluently) and u will not lose too much of torque either...

How much torque is the question

Are you guys kidding me??

Take a look under your CL. You have a single exhaust system that basically branches out to dual mufflers/tips.

True, but clarification (i.e dyno) is needed to see if there is a significant power loss with the "branching out" and dual mufflers...which I think there is.

Speaking of which, I wonder how much the Type S exhaust cost over the stock CLP. I know the CLS flows 30% better than my CLP, I'd be interested upgrading if the price was right, considering how I love our stock tips...But it's more than likely from the manifolds back that's designed differently...

any thoughts?
