TB butterfly claim.

I found this on another forum... this guy claims by keeping the secondary butterfly of the TB open he gained a good amount of hp. I don't see how you can tinker losing power somewhere in the power band. Anyone tried this or have seen something similar?

http://www.j32a.com/showthread.php?t=331

Purpose of the secondary butterfly:

What's strange is the TQ numbers with butterfly closed were an unknown and now all of a sudden with the secondary open its 261TQ.

261 TQ is a good amount of TQ if that is a loss by opening the secondary.

I'm calling BS on these numbers because something doesn't seem right and on 4th gear pulls? If that is true there is some strange voodoo going on.

i personally don't believe this claim. maybe he's got a freak of nature car, but if u think of the physics/logic behind it. It makes NO sense how a stupid air passage gave him so much hp.

maybe he also created a vacume leak thus introducing more air into the car without the added fuel... LEANING the car right out!!!!

It happened to me on my ford probe... when i fix the issue the car got WAY slower... LOL

fluke but, VERY possible.
either way, Acura put it there for a reason (spent a shit load of money figuring it out i bet) there's NO WAY it made that big of a difference.

IF IT DID it would have been figure out AGES AGO.

P.S my probe had the same butterfly concept inside the manifold and it didn't even work 2 years!, when I fixed it I noticed no difference. lol

lol i kno.. he says in a later post that he will go back and try and get the data electronically at the shop ... never happened.

so. w/o any sort of proof i would concur with civicdrivr 4 sure

especially cause it's some random claim. and maybe he used 2 different places/dyno's !?!?! cause he only listed HP for the first one which is really odd. so wtf

i'm smell something.... oh oh oh bullshit lol
Or am I?

and with how he is testing it, the butterfly should be open anyways (WOT and higher rpms)

and yeah he would really have to test it from 1500 rpm or so, on up; so yeah kinda need to see the graphs for the overall powerband
