Tapping the forum's intellect.

You guys (and gals) are pretty trustworthy and knowledgable so I'm gonna trust your opinions. My friend wants to spend $35K on a convertible. Can be either a 2-seater or 4-seater and can either be used or new. What would you recommend? Boxster? S2000? TT? 325/330? Please offer reason why you chose what you chose as well. Thanks!!

What will be the purpose of the car? You through in sports cars with some compact and mid-size cars.

If luxury is out of the question, go with the S2000. Lots of fun to drive, lots of power, great ratings, reliable, and the list goes on. I would love to have one as a second car to drive on nice days!!!

PS - If the buyer is over 6'2", forget it.

I'd personally choose the S2000. Mainly because I'm a new car type of guy and you can't really get any of those others new for $35K. Plus, the more I hear about German reliability (or lack thereof) the less likely I am to ever buy anything German new or used.

It's gonna be a daily driver. She's not so into pure performance.

I'd choose the TT any day! It was a toss up for me between the TT and the CL .. besides the fact that a TT isnt practical, it is the nicest looking car out there!! IMO <-- dont flame me! And there's something about the news article about the 2000 models lifting off at the autobahn, and so Audi had to add 20 pounds to the spoiler, that turns me on

The 2000 TT was the sweetest car I have EVER DRIVEN! I got a 1-1/2 hour test drive from the dealer in Pasadena, CA. Went up Angeles Crest Highway towards Mt. Wilson. The thing that made me buy the CL-S was that as sweet as it was, it was German and I did not want to do that again. By the way besides the addition of the spoiler, they also changed a control arm in the front suspension. The new ones might be safer then the 2000's, but there sure not as much fun to drive.

If you're in the $35k range, the 225hp TT roadster is out of the question. You can't really get that new for under $40k. I'd look at the Eclipse Spyder as well. Loaded, it stickers for just under $30k, and is a reasonable balance of performance and features. It's not really luxury, but not a sports car either.

The GT has a 200 hp V6 that's pretty torquey, but not so much that it torque-steers you to death. They beefed up the suspension, so it's much more rigid than the last version. I have a 98 and it's faster than the new one, but not nearly as well mannered.

s2000 because of all the reasons mentioned by previous posts and also because it is hand built in the same factory as the nsx in japan.

Plus. i'd add springs, sways, headers, shocks, exhaust and a CAI. That'll put me right at $35,000 and i'd kick ass looking good and being comfy.

S2000: Not for her, she's not into performance, so she won't make the most of the high-revving engine.
TT: Yes, she'll most likely love the looks (most women do) and Audi's come with 3-year maintenance free warranties nowadays.
Boxster: Yes, but I doubt you can get one for 35k with decent miles. If you can YES YES!
Used 325/330 convertible: Doubt you can find a 330 convertible this cheap. 325 is okay, but I'd rather get the others.
Whattabout the Z3? The 2.8 has decent power and I believe you can get one for 35k easily.
Or how about this one?:
