Sway Bars help with quick lane changes???

When switching lanes quickly, especially at high speeds, the car feels feels like a huge SUV. I'm just wondering if I change the sway bars alone if it will make the car more responsive. thanks!

Dr. Ruz,

Sway bars will not do much for transitional maneuvers IMO. Sways are better suited for cornering. If you want better control and responsiveness for lane changes (transitional maneuvers), get a good set of springs and shocks.

Well, I have agree and disagres here. The shocks alter the transient response of the car. They will help resist a quick change in motion. The sways help the left-to-right "roll" of the car (along with the springs). I don't think this is a cut-and-dry answer. I have added sways and increased the "roll" stiffness of previous car *and* this DID help with transitional constrol.

The shocks get "out-of-the-way" in the steady state. For example, if you were on a perfectly smooth skid pad and just got the car to skid at its limit, the shocks would not be doing much. That's why people call them "dampers", they damp out oscillations from the action of the springs and sways.

The springs WILL lower your CG [center of gravity] and help to lessen the "roll" of the car *and* if they are stiffer, they will help with left-to-right stiffness *and* front-to-rear properties (like brake dive and squat from acceleration).

I WILL TELL YOU what sways WONT do --> They will not help with front-to-rear balance of the car (squat and dive).

There is no simple answer to this question -- there have been some great handling cars that had soft springs, but really big sway bars...

(Did I confuse you enough?)

Simple answer... Yes, they will.

Of course the best way to do it is sways, springs, shocks and tires. But I think overall handling has improved with just the sways.

Just got my CL-S on Tuesday 4/17 and first thing that I noticed was to much "roll" At the very least some polyurethane bushings but might as well upgrade to stiffer sways with polyurethane bushings! Agree with Eric's post on handling.Am helping to gather interested parties to groupbuy Comptech Header as their prices are ridiculous! Please email.
Happy new CL-S owner.BlazerBob

Yes, just adding sways WILL greatly reduce that suv feeling when changing lanes on the highway!!!!!!!!

The car is much more responsive in any degree of turning.

And the stock ride has remained intack
