supercharger <> turbo

What would you get???
It would be a single turbo kit..
included in the kit would be as follows: Turbo manifolds, down pipe to the cat., T04b turbo, vortech FMU, a front mount I/C, and an AEM EMS might be adapted later for better tunning...
The only fabracation that would be required is monving the battary to the trunk...
So far we are gonna keep the boost at about 6-7psi, with full boost kicked in by 2500 rpm, but if you have a six speed you could turn it up to 9 or 10psi...
We didn't include a blow off valve or any of the electronics like turbo timmer and boost controler because of the many chocies avalible..
The kit would run between $4500.00 to $5000.00 (w/o aem ems)

All questions and suggestions are welcome....
We need to see what type of demand a kit of this style would have...
This kit will not be carb legal...
Thanks in advance......Z

A T04 might not be the best choice for a 3.2 Liter engine. Although I have been partial to Mitsubishi turbos after my Typhoon and 1st Gen DSM, a single 20G with sizing restrictions would work nice.

Unless the T04 was modified for a different A/R ratio, the one's used on the B series would not accommodate the larger J32A2 engine.

But if a proper turbo set up was supplied I would be interested...

No CARB, no purchase. I also like the idea of the lower boost of the SC.

I am more interested in a Turbo than a Supercharger.

I'd like to see what could happen with a turbo. I know that the potential is more.

In the real world superchargers are better than Turbo's. Turbo's generally make their power at the top of the rev band while superchargers gnerally make their power at the bottom of the rev band. Of course there are exceptions to both, but in 95% of street applications that is the case. Since most street cars do not live at maximum rpm's that makes the supercharger the better choice. Superchargers make their power from the crank shaft. Boost right now with no wait. Turbo's have to spool up by using exhaust gasses exiting the cylinders. There is a slight lag before boost occurs. So why are Turbo's prefered on most race cars save for NHRA big blocks? Because most race cars race in and around their red lines where Turbo's are king. By the way I've had both aplicatuions in street cars and I prefer the SC. My .02 cents

it depends on the car cause If I was getting ready to rebuild a motor to put into a car I'd go Turbo cause with a turbo you have to run lower compression. (so you gotta put in low compression pistons). but on the good part is you can run A LOT more boost.(like 15 lbs of boost if you build the motor right) the bad part of them is you gotta wait a second or 2 to wait for the turbo to "spool out". cause I saw a Supra turbo race a V-6 Accord believe it or not about the first 2-3 seconds the Accord was running side by side but once that turbo spooled he was gone.

if you got a newer motor(like you guys CL-S) or don't want to tear down the motor I say Supercharger because it's not as complex(as far as tearing down the motor) and plus you gain crazy bottom end.

personally I'd take Supercharger cause you don't have to worry about that deal with spooling it out and plus you have to rig up a blow off valve.

the to4b that we are gonna use wil be set up to make the most if its power.. with boost in at about 2500 rpm, so all you automatic driver have to do is power brake a little and you will have great launches...
really the only thing that has slowed us down is the tranny and A/F ratio...

please keep the comments comming...

thanks......Z

What makes you think that a supercharger at the same boost levels won't require a built bottom end? The reason for the lower compression pistons is not b/c it is a turbo but b/c it is boost in general. Plus these pistons will hopefully be forged or somehow stronger than stock. If you put a turbo pushing 5-6 PSI like most superchargers you wouldn't have to build the bottom end.
