stupid thought on reducing road noise

I'm forever looking at ways to reduce noise at highway speeds, but how does this sound?

Take the plastic wheel well covers to one of those places that spray on truckbed liners. Have them coat both sides.

seems the rest of the wheel well is the strut tower (steel) and those covers are the weakest link.

someone tell me it won't work so I can get this thought outta my head.

dynamating the entire cab would probably add 20 lbs

To reduce noise at highway speeds, I usually tell her to shut her mouth. It works must the time.

It might help but most noise folks, believe it or not, comes through the glass areas of our cars. The only way manufacturers have dealt with that issue is to use thicker glass which adds a TON of weight of course.

I think there was an increase of glass thinckness with the 2003 model in the case of the CL, do I remember that correctly? Was it not the rear windshield? The purpose was road noise.

the only difference in the glass from 01 is the sunroof is thicker in the 03. I agree, most noise is coming through the glass, but tire noise is also prevelant.

so, noone see's anything wrong with thickening the plastic wheel well inserts? I may try to get an estimate sometime. It should fit fine. and i'm not too concerned with the added weight as it should be trivial.

I think it would be the tires too. Because I was riding on my 19's with Toyo's on for a while and I just recently swap back to stocks for some long road trips.. and now I noticed the noise a lot more now.

Damn.. I hate the stock tires.. not only they have poor traction, they are also very loud!!

They sell cans of this bedliner coating at auto part stores. You can probably just roll it on with the wheel off the car. I've thought about this too. Just to lazy to do it since it doesnt seem to be that bad. I have noticed that stock tires are air pressure sensitive for both noise and ride. I run 36 front and 32 rear and this seems to give the best blend of ride/handling/noise.

I don't know about spray-on truckbed liners, but I too have also tried to reduce road noise on my old '94 Prelude VTEC. I sprayed the wheel wells with a high quality soundprofing spray and Dynamatted the interior floorboards, transmission and doors. Sorry to say, the effect was minimal.

If you have an '01...the mirrors create a lot of wind noise. If you really hear a lot of noise from your car....you should try turning on the radio once in awhile.
