Stolen Property at Dealer

Has this ever happened to anybody? I took my car into Lasher Acura in Elk Grove for an oil change on Saturday.

My school parking permit was stolen out of my vehicle. The permit is about $120, and on top of that I got a parking ticket.

What can I do about this? I talked to the service tech who wrote me up and he was no help. The manager won't return my phone calls. Any suggestions?

They don't replace them. I'd have to purchase one again.

^^Werd, from past threads from other boards, i've noticed taht dealerships usually don't do anything until an outside force penetrates their hole.

The dealership won't do a thing. You are responsible for personal property inside the vehicle. Sorry, man. Probably a porter stole and sold it.

So you're saying that they could take whatever they'd like and I'm responsible for it?

I looked over what I signed and it doesn't say that.

Dealerships have this in tiny written paegan script on all the work they do...

"We are not responsible for customer's cars if anything gets stolen."

It's for insurance purposes. There have been plenty of scams on insurance claims towards dealerships. That's why you're f'ed if you leave anything in your car that becomes stolen.

I know I shouldnt leave stuff in my car, but the parking permit is on my rear view mirror. I wasn't really thinking about that.

Make a Tread on how they're the worst dealership, when you get your feedback......email it to the dealership Att:the sales manager. No dealership wants negative publisity, this should get there attention.

I don't know if someone from the dealer stole it. I'm not accusing them of doing it knowingly, I just want to be reimbursed for what was taken from my car.

I did notice though that when the guy got into my car to check the mileage, he rolled down both windows all the way down. Anybody walking by could have just reached in and snagged it.

Does the permit have a unique number on it? Does the school track the numbers?

I think that even if the dealership is not technically responsible for stolen property, they may want to avoid any conflict. Go to the dealership and talk to the manager in person since he's not taking you phone calls.

Your SOL. Every shop has a sign that clears them from theft of personal property, or theft of the car, or damage of the car.
I take anything of value out of the car if I have any warranty work done. I don't keep things in the car anyway except my V1 & Ipod.

I'm not saying they'll take it. But they say they aren't responsible for personal property such as parking passes, cds, sunglasses, etc.

all resolved. Manager called me this morning while I was in class. I accidentally hung up on him. He called me back in couple of minutes. He was being a dick about it, but he said if I took him the receipt of the pass and the parking ticket that he would reimburse me for it.
