Stock Cars Faster than CL-S

Need your help guys...I'd like to get a list of cars that will run faster than a CL-S. I've got an '03 CL-S 6MT that is stock and was wondering what cars out there can beat the CL-S (stock for stock). Let's just say cars that are less than $60K.

I wouldn't want to be in the situation at a light when someone pulls up and I can't beat them.....not that I race or anything. Just and ego booster.....

Under 60k?
New Mustang Cobra (~390HP *drool*)
Chevy Corevette C5, any year of the C5 run, esp. the Z06
M3,Mercede's AMG cars with the 5.5L V8, some can be had for less than 60k.
Probably the SS Camaro, WS6 Trans Am.

Those vette's and Cobras will MANHANDLE CL's, not only in a straight line, but through the corners too (stock, that is) My dad owns a 2000 C5, what a blast to drive, thought I wish it was a Z06, I keep begging him to let me track it :-P

1) E46 M3, M5, orr any M.....
2) Mustang Cobras (ho ho 03 gets a SC too)
3) Any MB AMG
4) Porshca! Boxter S and higher...
5) LS1 engined... corvette and V8 Camaros, etc...

Just to name a few... after all those who are 13s stock are not that much

You bought the Fast and Furious the day it came out on DVD didn't you. Be prepared to get your ego deflated.

I am batting a 1000 right now..........beat the following off the line with my slushbox.........

03 WRX (manual) 1 car lenght
02 Infiniti Q45 (auto) 1/2 car length
02 Mustang GT (manual) 1 car length

So far so good, but it is just a matter of time finding someone with a crappy car that knows how to drive fast and win

Gee, it seems like the CLS can be taken by almost every car...So now the question is WHAT CAN IT TAKE off the line???....civics?and old accords or integras? lol....

BTW, i dont think that was an ego booster at all...it kinda just killed mine.....besides, regarding the 330ci, 0-60 time for auto, lets say is mid 6's....same as the CLS auto....do u really think itll take it off the line? plus it has 225 hp, and bmw is not exactly a lightweight vehicle u kno...

so 17 different models is "almost every car" as you put it.

there are MORE cars the cl-s can beat than it can't beat.

Re: Re: Stock Cars Faster than CL-S

I disagree with the following because I think its a drivers race and can go either way in the 1/4 or stoplight racing (highway would be different in some situations). So in essence, not so easy:

G35 - driver's race
Maxima6 - driver's race
WRX - driver's race
03' Accord coupe 6sp - driver's race
Altima - driver's race
BMW 330ci - driver's race

CLK430 (don't know much about)
LS430 - Big and Heavy
SC430 - Big and heavy
GS430/540 - I think the GS4/540 will win more often then not but a CLS6 might pull an upset here and there.
s2k - Yes, but the driver needs to abuse the car to beat a CLS6

You also forgot to mention an S4 (which is still close and can go either way), C32 (is this car under 60?), and a Lightning.

Isn't union grove always "open" tentatively.. so long as it's above 40 degrees, dry, and no precip indicated?

Ok guys, i ve got both, a CLS and 330ci....the 330 has just been broken in so i am going to race both cars this weekend....My bro will drive one and ill drive the other, well do a total of 4 races, switching drivers every other race....so finally, we can figure out the TRUTH of which car is acutally faster....but really having driven both cars on a daily basis, im betting that the two will be neck and neck, all the way....

dude u got talent. I wish I could race 2 cars at once. just kidding..

I mean, there are not many cars out there that you will meet that will beat you.

1. Take a GS 430 for instance, maybe 200 sold a month.
2. Where you are located.
3. Most people don't race, period let alone a Lex or Benz or BMW driver.

You could go undefeated for awhile.

Your right but I was figuring a stock CL-S auto a 6 sp. will be a little more competitive but its still like u say "a driver's race ". You got to remember the CL is heavier than any of the cars listed on the first list by 100-200lbs major disadvantage.

Don't go by those numbers go by what they dyno. Our CL-S rated 260 HP at the crank is only dynoing about 200 HP to the wheel. The 330CI is listed on having 214 lbs. of torque and I believe it dynoed more torque than our cars and its RWD .
I don't know to much about the 330 Auto but its tranny is got to be better than ours if the fluid never needs to be changed. WTF

The CLS is defintely quick for what it is...a entry luxury coupe with some sport.

Lou I hear you on the weight, its just that the cars mentioned should be faster but have been proven to be equal in speed to the CLS. For example, the BMWs seem to underestimate their numbers while Infiniti tends to overestimate. Some of the others are lighter but maybe not as well geared or just less hp. Personally I think the CLS/TLS is in good company with all those cars. Then again, as someone stated, whats the fun in being stock!

Gee i am upset with you people, no mention of the big ol 4 door sedan that weighs 3750 without driver has only 250hp and ran 14.4 1/4 mile at Englistown bone stock. none other than the big portly A6 2.7T 6 speed. In fact it ran 14.4 14.5 14.5 back to back to back. That would be a good run with a CLS 6 speed I would think.
The S4 6 speed would be quicker than that. : ))

I know about Audi I raced my friends A4 Quattro with only 170 HP with chrome and heavy 18" and was giving me a run for my money. one thing though what was the torque on that bad boy it had to be closer to 300lbs. right.

Yea like I was saying if the CL-S can hang stock put some headers, lightweight rims, intake and better tires and the CL-S will dominate. As far as the weight there is no question that the CL-S needs to go on a diet.....it needs to drop close to 200lbs of unnecessary weight.

The BMW 330ci will NOT beat a CL-S! I have first hand knowledge of this, because my nitwit nephew just bought one, a used one with 9,000 miles on it, and I drove it. It is a very nice car, but get this deal, I don't know if you will laugh or cry! 2002 BMW 330 ci, nephew put down $10,000 cash, and now has SIXTY MONTHS of $475 payments. Anyway, he let me drive the BMW and he sat right seat. When we got back, I gave him the keys to the CL-S. After five minutes of blasting down the expressway, nephew said "Gee, I wish I would have test driven one of these before buying the BMW." $38,500 for a used BMW vs. $31,050 for a new CL-S that is noticeably faster? There must be a turnip truck around here somewhere, because this kid just fell off of it! He is now trying to undo the deal with the BMW dealer (that won't happen.) I told him that "the next time you want to buy another car, call me first." I feel sorry for him though, you could see his ego was crushed when he left. Knowing what I know now, I should probably have left the keys to the Acura in my pocket. That way, he probably won't hurt so bad as he writes out his $475 check for the next SIXTY MONTHS! As I trade my cars every 365 days (the first Saturday after Thanksgiving), I have offered him my 03, and he will try to sell the bummer bimmer.

I should also add that the nephew with the 330ci bought an automatic transmission model, not a manual. I don't know if this hurts or helps the BMW. The auto trannie BMW should be a direct comparison to my dads' 3.2 TL, one would think.

Hey Jimcol: I work for ITW, and we own Miller Electric in Appleton, WI. I will probably go there in January, 2003. Are you near the expressway that bypasses Milwaukee? I wouldn't mind meeting you. Dave
