Joe's CLS pulls hard in 2nd and 3rd. I have no doubt Joe can take a stock ITR. He beats me 3 cars by 80ish. Nice guy. We'll race again when I get my car running right. I had to pull some parts off for repair =)

01 CL-S 5AT: 198 fwhp / (3510lb/2000) = 112.82 wHP/ton <== ADVANTAGE

The Acura has the advantage at the top-end. This helps to explain its higher trap speeds in the quarter mile and higher top-speed than my 99 5spd (146 for the Acura vs around 137 for the Maxima).

However, TORQUE is what you need to accelerate and get you off of the line, especially from a low speed roll like this was of only 5-10 mph.

Torque at the Wheels

99 Max 5spd: 171 fwtq / (3030lb/2000) = 112.87 wTQ/ton <== ADVANTAGE
01 CL-S 5AT: 182 fwtq / (3510lb/2000) = 103.70 wTQ/ton

You guys only have 11 more lb-ft of torque at the wheels than me, but almost a 500 lb weight penalty because the Acura's are so heavy. That's like having THREE extra passengers and hardly any extra torque to make up for it. So I have the advantage in low to medium speed acceleration on a CL-S.

In addition to Nismo87SE's CarTest2000 sims, I followed up with some passing times and the street start data.

Street Start, 5-60 mph
99 Max 5spd: 6.61s <== ADVANTAGE
01 CL-S 5AT: 6.88s

Passing, 30-50 mph
99 Max 5spd: 2.56s <== ADVANTAGE
01 CL-S 5AT: 2.97s

Passing, 50-70mph
99 Max 5spd: 3.96s
01 CL-S 5AT: 3.23s <== ADVANTAGE

Passing, 70-90mph
99 Max 5spd: 5.33s<== ADVANTAGE
01 CL-S 5AT: 5.47s

My older, lighter, manual tranny equipped, but less powerful car has the advantage in 3 out of 4 of those races. All that horsepower doesn't mean as much when you have 500lb more weight and hardly any extra torque.

 

anyways guys, I'm not here to hate. I think this is an interesting thread for technical discussion. I'm still a big Honda fan too, and all Acura needs to do is put the damned 6spd in the TL-S and I could be in one tomorrow. Sorry, I'm just not a Coupe fan unless it has some freakin cool trick doors like on the new RX-8

It's not possible unless the Maxima is fully modded.

Steve is one guy that causes alot of crap on other forums now including av6. But this will turn into a flame since these Max owners will support the maxima till the post gets locked because they think they can even beat vettes.

I like the overall looks, but the 5th gen front and sides get my approval. The rear, still takes a long time to grow on you. Some days I like it, and some I don't. The car just feels much more solid than my 98. My 96 felt better than my 98 though, it had no rattles, etc after 28k. The 98 had lots. My 2000 and 2001 had very very few rattles if any at all.

You're welcome to take these comments however you want, but suffice to say Russ has some issues with reality and the truth. The fact he needs two aliases here: Speedy3.2CL-S and SilverBullet gives those who know him pause to wonder if anything is wrong.


I apologize on behalf of maxima.org for this dirty laundry airing over here in this manner. Steve is well respected on the v6accord forums and the maxima.org forums. I'm sorry to say Russ does not share that reputation, especially since purchasing a CL-S and shoving it in the face of all Maxima owners in every forum at every chance.

 

I could say the same thing since I helped to create and run maxima.org before Jambo. Too bad it has gone to crap since I gave it up.

SpeedyCLS was my orginal name, and SilverBullet is my new one I have used since I switched over. So what if I have 2 names. Who gives a rats ass, the old one to all I care can be deleted.

And it so nice of you to post all posts from a year ago. Wow, it amazes me to see that I was so blinded like other Maxima owners till I drove other cars. Just proves that the CL-S was better because I bought one.

People who have been on maxima.org for years, including me. I use to own maxima.org back in 1998-1999, till I didn't have time to take care of it anymore. I handed it down to another person who gave it to Jambo which currently runs the site.

I am WELL RESPECTED on that site, by alot of people. There is only a handful of people who do not respect me because that is the way they are. They are a few on here including bill, doug, yj, steve. These are the people who always cause trouble and try to start crap with me anywhere I am. I don't apperciate this childish behavior and it should be stopped.
