I am very interested in this subject. I am trying to learn more about cars from you guys and I frankly do not understand what braided brake lines are intended to do over and above the factory lines...

yah i think it is worth..it gives u more precise braking feeling and it is safe..because the steel will not expend as much as plastic..i will want to buy that too soon...

CLPower: I would certainly reccomend the braided lines to anyone who drives hard and uses the brakes a lot. There is a noticable difference in pedal feel and feedback...I honestly believe that the raided lines helped me get stopped in time to avoid hitting a car that had cut me off...
They aren't that pricey and don't cost much to have put on, so why not invest in some safety?

I have always complained that the brakes on this car are very squishy - acutally more so than my '79 mercedes. Does this cure this issue?

The problem with steel lines are that they are supposed to be replaced at certain intervals, because of wear & tear. I don't remember how many years it was though but I believe it was less than 3. Also the reason that steel lines are better is because the lines don't expand like the rubber lines when you apply the brake. That is what helps to cause the better brake feeling that people talk about.
