Starter questions

Unfortunetly I don't have the means to buy a brand new $500 starter.

I could buy a rebuilt one for about half the price from acuraoemparts.com.

What I really want to know is has anyone rebuilt a starter?

The starter works fine but the solenoid gets stuck every so often. I'm hoping its either dirty inside and could just use a cleaning and maybe a set of brushes.

Any suggestions? Comments?

TIY.

If it's the solenoid that's acting up just change that.

Every major city usually has a shop that will rebuild your old starter for you, and like Zippee said, if it's just the solenoid, you can replace just that.

When I used to work at my uncles auto parts place 20 years ago, I used to have to make a trip to the generator/alternator/starter place that would rebuild anything. Place was weird with starters and alternators stacked to the ceiling... But they could rebuild anything that the usual part places couldn't.

Thanks guys.

I tore it apart, cleaned it and put it back in. It starts - for now.

My immediate thought was to replace the brushes but they aren't even through HALF of their life yet. I didn't see any evidence of shorting or other wear so .

Thanks for the help!
