SRS light on, what causes it to light up?
SRS light on, what causes it to light up?
was at the dealer changing tranny oil and they said they charge $105 CDN to inspect the SRS light problem. I found a bunch of instructions how to reset it. But what if it comes back? The OBDII scanner didn't show any error codes at all.
Is there any way to find out what caused the SRS light to light up without going to the dealer? Do they have some special computer for this?

Keep in mind that the method you are looking at to re-set it will just remove the code. If there is something wrong with one of the sensors, then your air bags may not deploy without correcting the porblem.
I had mine come on twice. Both times it was as a result of sensors. Both times I had them replaced under warranty. IMO, I don't mess with anything that may cause the air bags to fail.

Thanks Fuzzy, I found the thread but I now wonder how to get that code. Since there are only 3 particular codes that will make me eligible for the free extended warranty fix.

I don't yet know what my code is but it looks like I'm covered if it is 15-1, 15-2, 15-3, 9-3 or 9-4 DTC (SRS light) codes
15s are for OPDS sensor and 9s are for both front seat belt buckles

just had mine on 2 weeks ago, so last week I made the trip to Nalley Acura, said it was the drivers seatbelt buc. they'd order me one anc call me when it got in. 2 days later got a call, part was in, took it to 'em, 30 mins later I was driving off. Cost me only time, no dolla!

Don't have a scanner, but I try to snap a pic of my letter tonight.

Thanks for the input everyone, I got away with a seatbelt buckle
however I did get the code (friend of a friend who works there) before I went in to service but didn't tell them that I knew it already. Just wanted to check if they will come up with a different problem. They didn't lie. Which is nice.

But you should be able to get your money back now that a extended warranty has been issued.
I'm going to show the letter to the service guy who was telling me yesterday looking me straight in the eye that there is absolutely no free inspection for the SRS light and I will be fully responsible for the diag fee. It DOES say "the inspection is also free of charge, even if it's not the OPDS" it in the letter. I wonder if it applies to both US and Canada the same way...
The dealer in my area, King Acura, would NOT fix my SRS problem though I was still under warranty. Sure, the inspection was free, but it was going to cost me over $500 to replace the sensor in the passenger seat.
Most of the cost is labor of having to take the seat apart and put it back together, I was told.
On that same visit they covered a blown out AC hose and replaced the rear view mirror under warranty, but would NOT cover the SRS which has to do with safety...duh!
But then, every time I had to deal with King Acura, they were a joke. They always take in more work than they can do because they are the only dealership for miles around. Then you end up waiting 2 days for an oil change and tranny service.

I just want then to know that I drove without knowing if airbags would work or not for over 2 years. Good thing I never crashed it.

I tried going there with my 177k CLS and was turned down from anything...even an inspection.
Then, they told me that on top of the $90 to run the check, that it would probably be around $400-600 to replace it depending on whether it was the sensor or the pad in the passenger seat.
So, since this is a safety issue (note, I got my tranny replaced free of charge at 125k) and they give 150k extension...is it worth complaining to corporate and requesting that they do the job free? I'm the original owner from day one...which is the thing that helped me when getting the tranny replaced...

grab a print out of the letter posted previously and go to another dealer. When I called Acura Client Services in US they said my car is not covered however I was very skeptical about the bullshit I was just told, so I looked around and found the number for Acura Canada. Guess what? Acura Canada told me that not only my car is eligible for 15-1, 15-2, 15-3 codes covered by the extended warranty but also the seat belt buckle extended warranty which covers DTC codes 9-3 and 9-4. these things are covered up to 240,000kms or 150,000miles. I got mine fixed free of charge. Turned out to be the driver side seat belt buckle.
My SRS light started to stay on three weeks ago
I found that there is a pattern in Acura's reliability. Somehow a lot of cars start to fail within a narrow time internal. The letter came out in the spring/summer of this year and my SRS light came on 3 weeks ago. What a coincident!
By the way, the OEM battery failed exactly 48 months after the car went in service. I can't even find a battery that only has 48 month warranty on the market. I am just not impressed by Acura's quality.
